I was wondering if it would be possible for D* or E* to offer a family movie package. The package would include HBO-Family, Showtime Family, & Starz Family. I know it would be hard to get the three different providers to go for it, but I think E* would have the best chance since they were able to get a few movie channels in the Top150.

I think a lot of parents and grandparents would be willing to pay around $12.00 a month for this package.

Would you buy this package?

What other premium channels would you like to see in such a package?

Maybe if there were more channels or the price was lower, 12 dollars for 3 channels that show the same thing that the 8 other HBO/Showtime/Starz channels show is just too much.

I voted no because I already subscribe to AEP. My kid’s receiver (an old 3800) has the channel locks activated. And I am not easily offended. It does suck that dish can not/ will not sell premium channels on a la carte basis or like a create your own package. To much corporate greed.

Starz Family, HBO Family, Showtime Family, and the west feeds of all of those would be worth about $7.99 to me.

They would probably take some of the channels in the Top 150 package and add some other channels as well to create the Family Pack if they ever would implement one.

Wayne,

You can't have a poll with any kind of accuracy if there are only two choices. As you can see from some of the comments you need to mention price and give everyone more options.

SOMEONE needs to put some guidelines up on how to write a poll or soon this board is going to be known as "DBSTalk - The Home of Bad Polls".

Lol, or perhaps have the moderator approve the polls first and give a recommendation if it seems too broad.

Between ABC Family, Hallmark, Disney Channel, TCM, FMC, TNT, and TBS, there are plenty of movies that appropriate for families IMHO. We watched "Old Yeller" last weekend on Hallmark. It was better than anything I see advertised on HBO Family, and costs much less.

To set up a poll, post your request in the Admin forum or e-mail the moderators.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I liked adding the west feeds to the package or selling these channels a la carte. Also I forgot that if you do have a premium package that you can lock out R movies and adult programming. It seems my price of $12.00 for the package was too high as well.

Bill R, Thanks for you comments. I'm sorry I'm not a good pollster. I didn't plan to do a poll until the option at the bottom of the "new thread" page gave it to me. I just thought it would be a fun diversion from the DVR fee issue and until the next Charlie Chat rolls around.

Z'Loth, I didn't read anything in the forum rules regarding polls. Thanks for letting me know the proper way to submit them.

Ahh, the time has come :D It used to be that polls were only allowed to be posted in the now defunct Polling Forum, but if you wanted a poll posted in another forum we asked that you first submit a request, and have an admin or mod post the poll since regular members were not allowed to do so by VB. A few weeks ago we removed the polling forum and opened up polls in most forums to all members.

Just an observation (and I make this mistake myself), a lot of questions can be answered with just a yes or no, but depending on how you personally look at things there is a grey area. For this poll, my choice is a clear cut no, I would not subscribe to it. I don't like family type movies I prefer action/war, suspense and horror. But that's just me :) And therefore I would not be willing to pay for a package with channels dedicated to family entertainment.

Steve,

I agree that some polls can have a yes or no answer but when cost is involved you have to either qualify the question (for example, "If xxx offered a family movie pack with 6 channels and the cost was less than $10 a month, would you subscribe?") or give additional answer choices (for example, "Yes, if the cost was below $xx.xx a month" and "Maybe, if the cost was less than $xx.xx a month" and "No, I would never subscribe at any price"). Otherwise, you aren't going to get accurate results.

I know that polls here are usually for "fun" but (as anyone reading this forum might guess), bad polling is a "pet peeve" of mine. I have seen the results of some that were done "for fun" end up in national ads (none from this board YET, but I wouldn't put it pass DISH's marketing department).
