Hi All,
What are my options for offloading programming I want to keep from my 501, other than video?
Are there any products that plug into the port in the back? Removable HD's.... etc.
thanks in advance
Michael
About the only thing I can think of that you can really do right now is record the programming onto a VCR.
Well there's no way to output the MPEG signal, if that's what you mean.
But you can connect the A/V outputs to any compatible storage device such as a recordable DVD, VCR or computer HD.

We have strict rules about this kind of discussion. I quote from our forum rules:
(m) Discussion about hacking into the content of Personal Video Recorders (PVR's) including digital transfer of undecoded programming from the PVR's hard drive to another medium is prohibited. However, discussion about upgrading the hard drive in a PVR is allowed.
Just a reminder.
I would suggest just transferring the contents of the hard drive using the S-Video out to an external capture device. It's easier and less time consuming than trying to hack into the hard drive. Trust me.
There are satisfactory analog methods, however, which shouldn't violate anyone's rules (ironically to a digital device...a stand-alone DVD recorder). I use a Panny DMR-E30. Many also use models from Philips and Sony, I believe. One can be had for $300-400, and they work great.
I don't consider archiving to tape an option. That would be like trading your 2004 Infiniti G35 in on a '73 Pinto. Using an analog video capture device is way too complicated for the limited payoff, IMHO. It's still analog and real-time, so what's the advantage of taking it to a hard drive again? DVD recorders are the answer.
