Hello all! Hope it is ok to ask for advice as to where to shop for a on line deal! Want to activate under the Directv NFL Tix/Complete choice deal this month and hoping I can find a great deal. I have several "old" receivers around to add later for some of my other rooms, but have had trouble finding a good deal with some middle of the road receivers on a new customer activation. So many folks have had comments on various models....
-seems everyone votes down the rca.
-the Samsung appears to be a strong favorite.
-the Hughes Director and Exec Director have had some positive comments...
-sonys are expensive...no deals there!
-no one seems to mention phillips much...

I guess it would be too much to think I could get a Tivo and 2 decent tuners, self-install, and a oval for a hundred or so??? Found one deal at the Satellitestore...200 for a Tivo and 2 Hughes entrance models.

Sites I've seen are:Rapid Satellite, Expert Satellite, Valueelectronics, Satellite Store, VMC Satellie, Dish King, Satellite Store, Dish Depot, few others...

Am I making this complicated or what? Thanks for any advice.

From what I have seen, Philips and Hughes receivers are almost identical, only the outside looks different, Samsung and RCA are different animals completely. If you can get a good deal on a Philips, Hughes, or Samsung, I'd take it. The RCA HDVR2 would be o.k., but I'd stay away from their standard receivers.

You can go to Best Buy and check out the interfaces on some different models and see what you like best and order accordingly.

If you are o.k. with entry-level receivers - if you don't need DD or component video, the deal you have posted seems like a good one - especially if you are an existing subscriber.

Check www.orbitsat.com as well. I have ordered from them and thought they had great deals.

You may want to consider a PVR unit (aka DirecTivo).
