Hi all,
I just made the leap from DirecTV, and I think I've noticed a glaring downgrade in my HD DVR experience - no Fast Forward "correction". Do I not have some option somewhere not turned on? It will be very disappointing if the Vip612 is lacking this.

Thanks for your patience!

No such feature on E* DVRs. No need as E* has a 30 second ahead skip button and a 10 second back skip button. Many of us hit the 30 second ahead button a few times when a commercial break starts. When we see the program has resumed, we hit the 10 second back button once, twice, or even three times to resume viewing just before the program re-starts.

With practice this becomes automatic and is, in my opinion, superior to fast forwarding and relying on my reaction time.

The OP isn't talking about 30 second skip but (which DirecTV DVR's also have) but when you use Fast Forward. Example, you're in FF4 fast forwared when you see where you want to be you hit play, but the DVR has continued on forward a bit past that spot (takes a little bit of time for your brain to see that's where you want and to tell your finger to press play) so it auto corrects back to where it thinks you want to be, which is usually correct withing a few seconds.

Correct, but that is why SaltiDawg explaned why it is not needed with the 30 sec skip.

I knew what the OP was asking and I explained that E* does not have that feature and also described what many of us do during commercials.

Yeah, 30 second skip was available on the original Tivo I owned, as well as the DirecTV box I just gave up. I always preferred FF+correct though (available on both previous boxes) It always seemed to me to be far fewer key presses: FF twice (depending on how fast you want to go) then Play. With 30 sec skip its Skip Skip Skip Skip Skip.. (and so on) then oops! Back.

Oh, well - the reality of it is since the ViP doesn't have this, I'll *have* to get used to it eventually - bummer. : )

When you press a button on the ViP612 remote the receiver actually responds!! This will take some getting used to also if you are coming from an HR.

Boy you said it, peano!

The Number One reason I made the switch was because D*s "HR" box was getting hair-tearingly sluggish in the menus, general UI, and remote responsiveness. And I knew this was a widespread problem - not just my box.

Typical scenario in D*: You hit down a few times in one of the menus. It does nothing. So you start doing something else. The box finally acts on the 2 downs you pressed 5 seconds ago, but you're in a different menu now. Or you hit Enter on one of your programs to see the episode description. The box decides that you hit Enter twice, and blows right on through and starts playing the episode. ARRGGGHH.

I'll have to say that E*s unit is LIGHTNING compared to that thing. All in all I'll take the trade off. : )
