Someone on the newsgroups suggested sky angel is planning obn serving europe, central and south america along with the uS and canada from 61.5.

SOUTH AERICA and europe? Isnt the earth in the signal path?

I think SA would like superdish cariage on a rent a sopace basis and ould pay for this by seling or leasing 61.5 to rainbow.

61.5° can easily be seen from ALL of South America and most of Central America (only extreme northwestern Mexico would have trouble seeing it), Western Europe, and extreeme north-western Africa. (I beleive the entire western "lobe").

The plan right now is to launch a satellite that services South America and Western Africa. After that, they plan a satellite for the US. Then they plan to get a "western slot" to serve the pacific rim.

From www.skyangel.com
"And just imagine the far-reaching impact when multiple channels of the Gospel are eventually delivered via the Sky Angel signal around the globe to areas where many have not had the privilege of hearing the saving message of Jesus Christ! In the next few years, it is our prayer to take Sky Angel outside the boundaries of the United States and into Central and South Americas, Africa and parts of Europe, eventually blanketing the entire globe with the message of Jesus Christ via high-power satellite television. What a tremendous tool Sky Angel will be for missionaries venturing into some of the darkest areas of the globe. In the darkest areas, God’s light will shine the brightest!"

What sort of look angle would those locations have? I mean sure 61.5 technically serves nearly all the US, but with look angles nearly flat many areas a actually unserved unless the person sits in a clearing at the very top of the hill.

Anywhere from 36 degrees to 12 degrees. The entire western "lobe" of Africa has a usable look angle 36-20 degrees. The extreme western costal area of Africa down to the Congo (Zaire) has a low, bu t usable look angle. All of South America and Cental America have a better look angle than most of the US. In one spot in Brazil, the look angle is 90 degrees! The only exception would be extreme north-western Mexico. Portugal and Spain have good look angles. and even southern Italy has usable look angle.
