I am curious about the R-22 demise. Any answers?
I don't think they are making them anymore but they still pop up from time to time. I just sold one the other day. D* gave me one when I had it installed a few months ago as well.

The R22 was a stop-gap measure for DirecTV for consumers that had SD service, but were in areas that were switching from MPEG-2 locals to MPEG-4 locals, as it is the only SD receiver that is MPEG-4 compatible. Once the Hx receiver's software was modified to be able to hide HD channels, DirecTV opted to distribute those receivers to these customers and allow them to continue with SD service while using HD equipment. With this being done, the R22 was not needed anymore.

R-410 is taking it's place. Just remember R-410 runs twice the pressure than R 22.

Not around here it's not. I have 3 bottles of R 22.

I was looking for something the other day, in my shop, and found a can of R12, the top was a little rusted, but it was still full:)

Liquid gold :)
as opposed to Scott's Liquid Gold, which cannot be used as a refridgerant.
Screw all y'all, I'm sticking with my Liquid Schwartz.

Maybe DBS Talk should have separate forums for comedic answers to serious questions.

I think they thought they;d be funny. since your question was properly and throughly answered in the second post... Bad kids! :nono:
To your question though...
Merg is correct, there is no longer a point in making that model because its all software based now...

The SD DVRs are now usually from the R15/16 series. DirecTV is heading towards separating the R series from the HR series. The two series run completely different software. The R22s are stragglers in the corporate plan.

Then they'd also have to have a separate forum for posters who lack a sense of humor.
