Anybody want to speculate on what this means for all of us with Geode-based DVR/PVR/?VR units?

the chips'll come from AMD instead of National is all, I'm sure.

As the article states, the GEODE is quite popular, and will remain so. It would be silly of AMD to discontinue or dramatically change business practices around it.

I agree. I am hopeful that a big name like AMD could actually improve the situation a bit, perhaps escalate the hardware platform somewhat, and lead to better gear in set-top boxes. I would actually love to see AMD replace the Geode with a real AMD chip and chipset, and just complete the transformation of set-top boxes to glorified PC's (with a set-top price of course). Then again, I can get a P4-2.4GHz machine from Dell for $400, less than my 721 was when I bought it.
