When I first called about replacing one of my receivers with a PVR unit, the guy said I could self install it for $49.99. But I was still thinking about it, I just wanted the price.

I called back again a few days later to a CSR ready to order. This CSR says "no self-install, you must get technician install, $99.99 total". So I said, allright.

But then he says that my commitment is restarted on the date of the install. Currently I have 3 months left, but that would be restarted to 12 months on the date of the install.

Is this normal? I mean, the PVR is rented, isin't it? We have to return the PVR, the 301s, and switches, if we disconnect. I don't plan to disconnect any time soon. He said I can still switch down, to Top 50 (I have AEP w/ locals), the basic package. But basically, the commitment would be extended 9 months. So, I determine, if I had called 3 months later, it would be extended just 6 months?

I might understand, that if I got a brand new 508, that they could not sell it as new when I was done with it. But I could get a lowly refurb 501 :(

It was kind of vague. I went ahead and decided to get the PVR. Then he says he can't add the charge to the bill, so it has to go on the credit card.

It better be a 508. :nono2:

Don't complain too much it is usually a 12 month commitment from the end of your existing commitment, looks like you are getting a three month break.

When he explained it would be 12 months from the date of install I was a little less reluctant.

It better be a 508.

Only $49? Do you have DHP or something? The unit would not belong to you if that is the case.

If you have Dish Home Plan, upon completion of the contract and disconnection of the service, you are obligated to return the receivers, the lnb's and the switches. You are also obligated to return the dishes, but they usually don't want them. If your switches are not readily accessible, they might leave them, too. Otherwise, DNSC might come and get them, too.

I've seen a couple of dishes in my neighborhood, where DNSC took everything except the dish and the wiring. They even took the plastic "Y" on which the lnbs were mounted.

I got told that they will send me boxes for the receivers to ship back as well as the switch. The dishes are mine though.

Dish likes you to leave the dishes and the wiring. It's great advertising for the new home owner or renter.

That's the reason for the Dishmover promotion.

Except I'm not moving, I'm switching. ;)

Yes, read the subject title.

Damnit! It's a remanufactured 501. But, despite that, I am still very pleased!
