On SPEEDs coverage of F1 yesterday and today lots of audio drops every 60 to 90 secs. Annoying as ***L. Is anyone else having this? It also occurred during their coverage of 24hrs of Daytona and other live racing events. Watching thru my HR21 but this happens on my HR20 also. Can anything be done?

I'm watching qualifying from this morning, no drops here. HR21-100.

I was dozing off when watching yesterdays practice, but don't recall any issues.

Sorry if this has been covered, I have seen this audio drop problem on all channels at one point or another. In my experience, pausing and unpausing the DVR cures the problem. If this has been shown to not help your problem, then it is a problem I have not seen.

Its usually only with live race feeds, and appears to be an encoder sync problem, since the dropout can be replayed on the DVR. Some races are worse than others, some dont have any at all. If you are not using an external receiver/amplifier using optical audio and Dolby Digital, you may not notice the drop outs at all. The above combination, however, makes the problem stand out, because the receiver (brand dependent) will try to switch back to analog or stereo, and then resync back to Dolby Digital. My solution is to just turn off Dolby Digital for live races that have this problem.

I do watch delayed thru the DVR and thru a audio rec'vr with an optical connection. I will try turning off DD and see if that improves it. Thanks for your suggestion, but would like to see it fixed at DTV's end. Thanks

Speed has been bad for the past few weeks. Worse than normal. Pixilation and audio drops.

I've just started catching up on the new Pass Time series and have noticed the dropouts are as bad as ever. I think it's the whole channel, not just live events.

Not defending DirecTv on this issue, but... Its totally possible that the encoders they are using and the extremely high motion on Speed, Espn, etc, might be the cause, and DirecTv cannot get the encoder manufacturer to fix THEIR problem. Im pretty confident that as long as this has been going on, it would have been fixed by DirecTv by now, if it was in their ability to do so.

I would be curious is the brand encoder DirecTv uses is different than the one Dish uses, since I dont recall Dish subs complaining. Ive also watched the Speed uplink directly from some of the tracks on C band, and its not in the speed uplink.

UPDATED: Watched the race today with DD Off. Made a huge difference. Drops almost undiscernable. Will do this from now on with live events. Thanks

The F1 race didn't seem to have any today. The only pauses seemed to be from the onboard camera feeds when they lost LOS as they went under something.

That's right. I watched the race without a glitch in a glorious DD 5.1. Formula 1 transmission can be tricky because it also depends on the feed provided by local TV stations. On the other hand, I also watched Indycar through the web, in a "wonderful" 750 bps . I want Versus back, badly !
