View Full Version : Why such volume?
I find it interesting that there is such volume of posts and active users of the Dish groups, but very little in the way of DirecTV groups. Is this something that happens because there is allot of dish activity right now, or are dish people simply more passionate?

I consider myself very passonaite about Dish having been a customer since the first year they started business. I think Dish has the underdog status and that makes people root more for them as a company. You know like David and Goliath.
Plus most people with Dish have a lot of their own money invested in the equipment and it seems a lot of us on this board do upgrade to better and more expensive receivers. One other thing it has been a very exciting time for Dish with the announcements of the Superdish and the newer receivers like the 921,522,311,322,etc, and the new satellite E9 wich is launching tonight and the possibility for Dish to do 50 HD channels and more LOCALS.
So yes, most people who are on this board do lean more to Dish . All the possibilities.

The "old" adage applies I think - Dish people talk about their systems while Directv people watch theirs.
Plus, Dish communicates with their customers (providing us information to pass along to you, Charlie & Tech Chats, etc.) much moreso than Directv does. More information = more talk.

Mark: That's not exactly right. Dish people talk about their systems while Directv HACk AND PIRATE theirs. :)

One of the big diffrences between DirecTV and Dish Network is that Dish Network makes all of their own recevers (well actually Dish Networks parent company Echostar makes them)
DirecTV on the other hand licences its technologies to other to make receivers. I do have contacts at DirecTV who are just as surprised as we are with what some companies announce for new products. Basiclly DirecTV gives these companies the keys and lets them use there imaginations to come up with new receivers and technologies (as long as the companies follow certain guidelines)
Echostar on the other hand basically devolops everything in house or through one of its family of companies.
If you have Dish Network you have a receiver made by Echostar, no ifs ands or butts.
If you have DirecTV you have a receiver made by a company like Sony, Hughes, RCA, Phillips and so on.
It is easier for us to communicate with one company Echostar who is actually open and will answer questions about their products. If you call DirecTV and ask about an Upcoming IRD they will tell you to call the manufacturer directly (and chances are the only way to get the information like we get from Echostar is to call Japan and speak to whoevers making the units)
Hope this explains a little bit better why more Echostar -vs- DirecTV info and posts.

Even if you think it's cheesy, Charlie Chats are very informative (most of the time). :)
I like E* because Charlie built the company and dared to be different. It's the only place I can watch WB2 from Denver -- in Oceanside. The super station package is good.
For me, my money is best spent at E*. I initially had DTV, but found E* more value for the money. :p
Please, your results may vary. Close cover before striking the keyboard. :eek2:

Primarily it's because Dish people hang out here. DirecTV people hang out at www.tivocommunity.com.
