That memory dump thing doesn't work for me on my 301.
It works for me. You need to press the buttons quickly, but not so quickly that the "CONNECTION & DIAL OUT HELP" screen doesn't come up.

I wonder if Dish will hide this information in the future if this knowledge gets out too much causing problems?

Okay, I got the memory dump. Actually kinda neat. It sort of looks like you can edit the data. I think I changed a number in the memory accidentally but it didn't seem to do anything bad,
I am aways HIGHLY suspicious when someone asks about cracking a receiver password. Many satellite receivers are swiped each month (ask any neighborhood cop about that) and many of them have passwords on them and wind up being sold at "flea" markets. The "without calling support" is usually a dead giveaway that something is not right. IMHO, the "bet with my uncle" is horse hockey too.

Another thing, can you rollback (downgrade) to the software that was preinstalled on a 301?

Nope, you can't downgrade software on a receiver.

There are two ways:
Hard Reset: (This will reset everything)
1. Press Menu/System/diagnostics/
2. Press the Info button /right arrow/left arrow in that order, as quickly as you can... until you get a memory dump screen
3. Press TV/Video button
4. Unplug Receiver for a few seconds
5. Plug in Receiver
or You could always read the password in the memory dump:
Using your remote control:
1. Press Menu/System/diagnostics/
2. Press the Info button /right arrow/left arrow in that order, as quickly as you can... until you get a memory dump screen
For the 301 the password is stored at 0320. You read it starting from the 2nd column, 2nd character, and then every other character in that column. For example, if your password is 1234, then that column will read something like 31323334. (remove the 3's ie x1x2x3x4)
It would be knowledgeable to know on how many types of receivers this will work on. I know it does not work on 322, but it seems to work on legacy receivers and 508.
I thought that on some receiver maybe older ones the password line was at line 01CO. The 4 digit password is reversed by 2's. (I.e. If the password is 1234, it would be displayed in the Dump in the 3rd group of digits as 34120000.
On some other IRD's a MASTER RESET would be done by turning the IRD off then pressing (on the remote) 32768 the lights on the IRD should flash to confirm it took it.
Some of the new receivers reset by holding down the power button on the receiver for a few seconds. But I'm not sure what about newer DishPro 322 and other receivers does anyone know their steps?
Sounds like somebody's parents are away and wants to order PPV's in the 490-500 channel area.

That's the most interesting way to convert from hexadecimal ASCII representation I've ever seen... :D

With only 10,000 possible codes, I'd take a $200 bet. ;) Only take a few hours to punch them all in.

I don't think we're going to give password cracks out any more to unregistered kids that are trying to unlock the box with the parents away. :D
Dish tech support can reset the password from their end, so if you're for real, just call them.

After many a try, I got into the memory dump, its pretty cool! But on line NVM 0320, the second column is just 00000000. I tryed entering the password as 0000, but no luck. Help!
