Anyone know if there is a way to opt out or turn off the mail system in the receivers and DVR's?

If not, then I have a feature suggestion: a red button delete without opening.

I agree. I have 3 DVR's. Once I've read the mail on one DVR it is a hassle to have to open up the mail in each of the other DVR's to delete them. I can't just leave them -- I hate having the envelope by the tvmail menu ;-).

Same here only with 4 DVRs. Most of the mail I don't even need to read once. Right now my receivers have messages about sport scores which I already know, some channel in Espanol which I don't speak, Versus which I never watch and Basketball which I couldn't care less about.

A simple one button delete would be beneficial. Instead I just never read the mail since the little envelope is always on and I don't know when there is a new message.

Just hit dash twice

Nice to know that. I wonder how many people know that trick. It still would be easier if one push of the red button deleted the mail without opening each. If the red button deletes after opening the mail, why not also have it work before opening the mail with a notation on the screen? Keep it simple, same method for all cases.

Double-dash has always deleted without prompting. Okay, well not always, but for a long time.

While that may be the fact, it is not obvious. The red button is frequently used for delete and is designated as such on several screen pages. I have never seen the double-dash in the on screen instructions for deleting.

Don't think I have ever used the red button to delete anything when I want to delete I always have double dashed.

It never was. I wasn't implying that everyone did or does know about that functionality, just that it has always been there. It was actually there before the Red Button Delete function made it's appearance.

I've just spent more time reading and replying to this thread than I would spend deleting TV mail from all 3 of my receivers for the next 5 years combined.

Why all the angst? The machine does not have a blinking light. It does not pop up "You have Mail" over and over again. It is actually so benign, I often miss mail completely. All this because a little icon shows up? Wow.

You may be on to something. I had to open this thread to see what TV mail was. I've had DirecTV since 1996, and just went to the TV after reading this thread. Imagine my surprise when I saw that little envelope. I'm sure I must have noticed it before, but I am pretty sure I have never opened it until just now.

I just ignore it, saves me finger presses....besides whatever the email is informing me of I've probably have read about it here first...and days before the email shows up.

Mine never had any mail until Versus came back online. I was annoyed that it didn't work!
