This will be the first time I have watched a sea launch... Funny seeing the rocket out in the middle of the water looking like a giant oil drilling platform.

The elderly lady in the red dress looks like she used to be a former schoolteacher with that hairstyle and demeanor.

ScottG: Maybe you should have a chat for this stuff. Wow that looks so primitive. Any rocket scientists out there?

5:10 and counting

Is it me or was there a helicopter hovering near the rocket for a while about ten minutes ago or so?

jeffwtux
08-07-03, 09:31 PM
Is that on Pacific Time or the time zone west of it, Alaska time? Anyways, I can't believe it's still light out there. They must be like 4 hours behind Eastern time. Wow the worlds only bilingual countdown(English and Russian)

jeffwtux
08-07-03, 09:32 PM
Ok, I have a very DOMB question. Where's the satellite? I see the rocket. Where's the satellite?

Darkman
08-07-03, 09:32 PM
There she goes!!!! ( the rocket, not the elderly lady :) )

Yes. All computer graphics there simulating the separation stage.

The image of the satellite module with the Zenit label on it. That's just an animated simulation right? That can't be live video right?

When the guest was talking about some of the team members, a picture of one of them came up, and it looked like he was mad or something. (scary :D )

This is funny because Apollo 13 was on USA tonight. That room looks like the Apollo 13 Nasa room

John,
At Telstar 5 there - i had it on 12046, V...
so just for the hell of it i punched in 22000 - and i am getting a signal there..
It is actually a Lock now...

But when i go to scan it - it shows me "Complete" with nothing found...

What a heck is that, that i discovered there?
Probably nothing eh?

jeffwtux
08-07-03, 10:39 PM
They still don't have a signal.

John,
I think you screwed up a bit on the TP 25's info (re: Telstar 5) :)

I just checked Lyngsat for tp 25 on T5 and it shows 12146 (not 12046)

:p

"Ok, I have a very DOMB question. Where's the satellite? I see the rocket. Where's the satellite?"

There are no DOMB questions, Jeff, just DUMB answers. Here's mine:

The payload rides atop the rocket in the nose cone. Iri brief, when the rocket ascends to the designated altitude, the nose cone separates and the payload (satellite) is deployed.

So did it get up last night? I was carting Steve Mehs around town as he was here on Vacation and was not home to see what went on. :)

The chat room is ALWAYS open at http://chat.dbstalk.com everyone can use it at anytime. :)

Everything went as expected through satellite separation.

IMHO ILS does much better launch coverage; boeing needs to work on there presentation.
