I spoke with a DISH CSR this morning because I was having trouble with my 6000 and the new module for it. We got to talking about the 721. She was very excited about HDTV and the new equipment coming in few months or less.

I mentioned something to her about it would be nice if there were more channels from DISH in HD. She said that there will be a lot of excitement next week dealing with all DISH HD. I guess they are still putting on some last minute touches to a few contracts, but "the big players are all lined up" (in her own words)...

But she thought there will be at least 10 channels in a new package for HD viewers. She was very careful never to say HD channels, and later when I asked about this, she said not all channels will be in real HD. She was a little overly joyful about my having an HDTV set.

I would REALLY be nice if this CSR was correct, but until I can see these 10 channels on the set in my den I can't believe anything Dish says at this point. Burned once too often by 'promises' of what's going to happen.

Yeah, remember when someone posted all the channels that were being added, 7 or 8 I think, that didn't show up for months, if ever, like Ovation, Style, etc.

Who was that poster...Something One or Young Something, I forget. :D

Ok. lets once again list out the HD channels that we think that Dish will have in their HD package. I guess 10 is the magic number, and no this is all just speculation.

America's Top HD

Discovery HD Theater
HD Events (you thought it would stay free? idiot!)
HDNet
HDNet Movies
ESPN-HD
Bravo-HD
INHD
INHD2
Starz-HD
Stars-High Res

Note: HBO, SHO, and Cinemax HD channels will likely only ever be available in conjunction with their regular programming packages.

Don't forget Skinimax HD, HBO & ShoHD (wishful thinking).

DOH! What a dope, I didn't read your bottom line, Cyclone. :hurah:

Why wouldn't Starz HD & Starz ED go with the Starz Pak?

I think HD Events will stay around for occasional specials. Some will be free, some will be PPV.

Those CSR's dont know anymore than we do for the most part, if anything we know more than they do.

Unless they move HBOHD, SHOHD, and CinHD into the package, I will never subscribe to them. I refuse to pay the HBO (or others) package price when I know I will only watch the HD channel.

I think that Starz!-HD will be sold with the respective premium package. But the Sharper Movies HD (by Starz!) will be in the Top HD package. From the sound of the InHD channels, only one will be avialable to multichannel providers outside of cable... Here are my thoughts:

America's Top HD

Discovery HD Theater
HDNet
HDNet Movies
ESPN-HD
Bravo-HD
InHD
Sharper Movies HD (by Starz!)
USA Network
Sci-Fi
HD Events (do no think you will have to have the package, though)

Remember that DISH does have a contract with Vivendi to produce 6 original entertainment channels for DISH Network by this fall. Why not just high res USA and Sci-Fi and only have 4 others to go?

Other HD Channels Coming

Starz! HD
CineMAX HD
TMC HD

If you watch Sci Fi they recently switched a lot of ther new Content and Comercials and Sci File leads in to Letter Box.

I think we will see a Sci Fi High Res or Enhanced TV.

There logo is also on the HDTV truck- see my other post.

cable companies use a service called in demand pay per view to provide their sports and ppv services. Well beginning september 15th indemand is going to start offering 2 high definition channels called inhd and inhd2 to cable operators. This is the first I've heard of anyone outside of cable using in demand pay per view or inhd.

I spoke with a programming rep yesterday and he didn't know anything about any HD package. Not surprising.
