Contacted Dish today via chat wanting to upgrade my reciever from a 211 to a 612. I was told by the rep that I could not upgrade as there were no promotions to upgrade. She then passed me over to the loyalty dept rep. She said pretty much the same thing but also suggested I check out ebay to buy one. Now I have been a dish customer for over 5 years and never heard such a thing as not being able to upgrade my reciever or go to ebay and buy one. I wonder if there isn't something going on with dish dvrs and the tivo lawsuit.

When'd you get the 211? No offense, but how's your payment history?
You might ask about a purchase option.
By the way... :welcome_s

You can only do a lease upgrade once per 12 month period, so if you've upgraded within that time, that's why you can't do so again.

coldsteel, I am a grade a customer. Got a reply back from ceo@dishnetwork.com and they explained the issue is related to one upgrade per 12 months. Why the rep on the phone couldn't just say that is one I don't understand.

I sort of understand why, but my thought is someone wants more of what I'm selling, I'll sell it to them. Two or three extra if they want them. Maybe tack on a 2 year commitment or something, but let them upgrade for heaven's sake.

I can't think of a logical business reason for this especially with the new fees. Unless they're trying to keep people from going from dual output to single out put receivers.

Agreed, that should have been disclosed. Hence the asking when you got the 211.

Dish has had a "1 lease upgrade per 12 month period" for years now. Folks get lease upgrades at a big discount, and Dish not only has to eat much of the receiver cost, but also pay for an installer to come out and do the work. If they let you upgrade as often as you wanted, you'd have people "upgrading" (read: changing things around) constantly, at a HUGE cost for Dish. So, they put in the "1 in 12 months" speedbump to make sure folks are putting some forethought into their upgrades and not wasting a lot of Dish's time and money.
Hint: this helps keep YOUR Dish bill low.

Reasonable.
Thanks.
