I asked a state representative on a local TV show to explain to me how the Satellite tax was fair when it was ONLY levied on satellite service (as opposed to Cable and MSOs). He said he personally thought it wasn't, but Ohio needed the money so he voted for it. :(
He then said that OTHERS argued that most Cable customers already pay a "local" Franchise fee that satellite customers don't, so it "balanced" out. The thing is that the Franchise fee, at least in my little neck of the woods, goes 100% into funding a community TV studio that runs public affairs, local government meeting, high school sports and community events with equipment and facilities that ALL residents (even non-cable subs) can use to make and air their own programs! And that is 3.5% of the cable bill. I guarantee you that the 7% tax levied on me for being a satellite customer is not going to return such direct benefit!
See ya

Taxes suck in general :(
Just another way of governmental bodies, politicians, "powerfull people", and an "overall corruption" - to suck the Money out of the People, ....
Put it this way - THEY will not forget to "fill their own pockets" a bit, with at the LEAST part of those moneys (if not directly, then in the form of perks, benefits, different deals ( aka. "you scratch my back - i ll scratch yours :) ), etc...
That is just the way it goes nowadays.. and is the way of life..
Regular folk is just a puppet (where THEY are "the puppeteer")
hehe - sad but true... :(

And Californians think they are the only ones who have incompetant leadership in their statehouse?
But, unfortunately, many of those that voted for Taft, whom already regret their vote for him, have to live with that regret for just over 3 more years. It sucks, but that's the way democracy works.

No we don't. While Ohio doesn't have the easy recally process of California, he can still be removed from office. See Ohio Revised Code section 3.08.

It is the lower income families that a tax like this hurts the most. T.V. is where many of them spend their entertainment dollar because they can't afford other options.
Yes by all means lets punish those successful individuals who work hard for their money so that they can afford such...."luxuries"....as satellite tv.
Radical thought of the day...instead of increasing taxes....why doesn't the government find a way to work with the already large amount of money that they have? *gasp!!!* How dare we ask the government to be responsible with OUR money and not waste it away on some worthless program. And no i'm not saying all programs are worthless but the government can surely find ways to cut spending of OUR money instead of getting more of OUR money and wasting it away.....
IMO they should clean their own houses before heaping additional taxes on the working folks.
Ohio bumped taxes on a whole slew of things which all added up makes for alot more than $7.00 a month.
List of new taxes in Ohio (http://www.whiotv.com/news/2372452/detail.html)
You now have to pay a tax if your unfortunate enough to break down or get a flat. Better hope you don't get in a wreck and have to call a taxi. You'll get taxed twice.
All petty taxes that the public would have been better served by as I stated above, cleaning house as opposed to this.

but they did decide to delay or scratch all together the increase for people who want to hunt and fish in ohio. I remember hearing about it on the local news about 4 or 5 weeks ago. Don't feel bad us smokers here in west virginia just got our sales tax raised from 17 cents a pack to 65 cents a pack and our governor wise is going to try to raise it again up to maybe 75 or 85 cents a pack because "our government doesn't have enough money to operate efficiently". Also pennsylvania still doesn't have a budget and pittsburgh is in such poor fiscal shape they just laid off 710 workers and shut down 3/4's of the pools, senior center and recreation centers in the city saturday.

New York's sales tax in several counties is 9% or higher now, and that's not just New York City, either. We've got a new penalty on all incomes greater than 100k (which is literally peanuts in New York - the dollar doesn't stretch far here). Just proves how states can't reign in spending when it's necessary to do so.

Did your state house rep vote for that budget?
If so you call his/her office up and RUTHLESSLY MERCILESSY HARASS AND TERRORIZE him/her. Have no mercy. I wouldn't. Don't let them get away with the franchise fee argument either. LOAD UP THE QUESTION. PUT THE ANSWER TO THE franchise fee copout in the question. Don't let them even give that copout answer. I would be terrorizing my house rep every day if they dare considered such an unfair tax.
this tax is BULLSH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know what I find humourous, I am in vacation mode 5$ a month deal, and they charge the TAX!!! so I pay 5.30.. What a crock is that? Ohio needs to find other ways to make a buck, not off us loyal satellite TV customers. If this keeps E* from adding locals in Columbus, I am going to really be annonyed.
