HR21-700 intermittently is not responding to the remote.
I tried new batteries, no luck. It started intermittently, and I would have to hit the buttons twice or more to get a blinking on the DVR left power light and have something happen, as it usually tells me it's accepting my commands.
Eventually it stops all together, and resetting/hard reboot is hit or miss on making it work, however only temporary. One thing I noticed is that when I did get it working again, it stopped as soon as the unit began recording.
Coincidence?
The remote works fine on the other HRX units, so is it possible the remote sensor it going out?

Some kind of hardware failure sure seems like a possibility. Is there any other source of infrared light in the room with it that might be confusing the DVR? Do you have a different universal remote that you could try?

I tried other D* remotes, no luck.
So what I ended up doing was swapping rooms with an HR20.
HR20 is doing just fine in the same location, with the same remote.

Is the HR21 working in it's new location? Could the plastic lens over the IR receiver be dirty or geting cloudy from cleaning solvents used on it?

Sounds like the your on the right track with the IR sensor going a bit wonky. You could also give RF mode a shot assuming you have a RF remote.

I tried to clean, but only with a soft dry cloth, no chemicals were used.

Is there a list of RF compatible remote models so I can see if I own one?
It will be RC64R or something real similar with a second R

RC24
RC34
RC64R
RC64
RC65R
RC65RB
(I don't remember if there was a RC32R)
The easy way to tell is to flip the remote over. If it has a FCC ID sticker on it, it's RF.
