View Full Version : 721 missed timer events
I've got a question for you other 721 owners: Has your 721 (under the current 1.12 software) missed timer events? I've missed a few on my 721 just recently and since it is a recent replacement for a unit which died I'm trying to decide if its hardware or just a bug in 1.12
At least on event was missed when I left the receiver in picture-in-picture mode. Event was set to auto-tune. Neither tuner auto-tuned. Another event was missed when I had the guide up on the receiver as the timer was due to activate.
Any thoughts? Thanks

Yes, I had mine miss a few timers as well in which I have not had that long either, less than a month, in which was a new replacement from the last one that had tuner 2 problems.
What I tried doing was going to the timers menu, selecting those timers that will not fire, deleting them, then adding the timers back. If it will not let you delete the timers in which it would not let me, do a reboot by pressing the power button for about 5 or 6 seconds and then try deleting and adding the timers again. This worked for me.
My 721 missed a few events too. I did the same thing that Jacob did, that is, delete and add the timers back. That seems to have fixed them for now.

I have never had it miss a timer, although to my knowledge I have never had the guide up or been using PIP when a timer was set to fire. So maybe that's what caused it.

something appears to be corrupted. It missed a PVR event. No channel guide up and no PIP. It just did not fire. I'm going to try deleting and reestablishing the timer events. But it is strange. Other timers have fired properly in the past.

I also thought it was strange. Both were from the same channel too I may add but I do not know if that had anything to do with it. We have been on software version 1.12 for a while havent we? This 721 is about a month old and I received it new.
Maybe the shows where off by a few minuties? i had that happen to me when they where off.
Funny, i have a replacement 721 too, and while it didn't miss a recording. It had one recording with 0 minutes. Then i had another that was scheduled for 1 hr and recorded for 90 minutes. the funny thing was, the extra 30 minutes were before the show not after. Weird. I also deleted and redid timers.

I looked to see if the timer was firing and it did not come on at the time it should have been so it was not a matter of being off for a few minutes.

Since when did the 721 start caring when a program started or even if the progam that is on is really what you want to record? The 721 has TIME SLOT based recording (just like a VCR) and it doesn't look at the actual program start times.
My 721 re-booted itself this afternoon while I was watching TV for no apparent reason. No programs were deleted but the software should be stable enough so that it never does that.

My original unit missed one or two events when I had it. My replacement 721 recorded a 30 minute show last week which correctly showed 30 minutes of the program time in the pvr screen when highlighted, but showed 0 minutes the moment I attempted to play it. I was still unable to play it after doing some power button resets, smart card resets, and disconnecting the power cord for 15 minutes as well. Had to delete it.

I left Friday morning to go on a small vacation and when I returned Monday night the 721 had missed all my scheduled timers . It's like it said when the cat is a way the mouse will play. This has not happened for a long time. Of course I had to reset it and do a smart card reset and stand on my head and fart Dixie but it 's back up and running again.
Just love what old Charlie said about Dish having the best dvrs in the business. :nono:

The last time I remember a PVR missing a timer was either with my 501 or Dishplayer I had.

FF was a rerun this week from 2002 where they had a bunch of washed up actors and actresses going for the ultimate prize. Greg Brady, Ali Landry, Stephen Baldwin, and a couple of other slap nutz etc... NBC has shown that episode probably 3 times or so now. One of the gals freaks out and screams bloody murder when they cover her in worms or snakes.

I find the 508 pvr is very solid on recordings . I've never lost a recording on the 508s while the 721 periodically looses all the timers and the caller id. It has not happened with the timers in a long time but the caller id issue comes and goes . When it happens I end up reseting the receiver to get back the feature.
I hope the 522 uses the same software as the 508 series instead of the 721 . Unless the new, promised for 8 months software for the 721 can fix these problems.

I would hope that the 522 has the same software as the 721 because I like that interface a lot and its Linux based too. This is the first time I recall having any timer problems with the 721.
