View Full Version : Need help adding Dish receiver
I'm currently having my basement finished, and I need to start thinking of adding another Dish Network receiver. I currently have a standard receiver in our bedroom301) and a HD dual tuner(622) in our living room running the living room TV in HD and our toy room in SD. What I'd like to do is get rid of the standard receiver in the bedroom and get another HD dual tuner for the basement, running the basement(HD) and the bedroom(SD).
I spoke with Dish, and I'm currently not eligible for another upgrade. They said I could buy a reciever somewhere and have it installed. Where is the best place to buy the receiver? Is installation something I can do myself(can I install it outside where one is installed, or will I need to have them connect it to the actual dish)?
Contact DISH and ask what it will cost to purchase and install a dual tuner HD receiver? Now that you have a basis for comparison shop eBay for similar models. If you still have a local dealer in business shop them for installation or receiver and installation.
What is your technical level? The fact you have to ask about installation suggests it is beyond your current level and better left to someone that already understands back feeding signals.

You can only do a lease upgrade once per 12 month period. If you just did an upgrade recently, then buying a receiver outright is probably your only option. But if you did your upgrade, say, 11 months ago, it might be smarter to wait out the last month and then do the lease upgrade. Be sure to project your needs out at least a year when you upgrade...

It was September when we did the upgrade, so I still have a while left. I don't mind buying my own, and I've been looking at either another HD DVR or just another HD receiver on ebay. Looks like I can get one for $100-150. Can anyone suggest specific receivers I should be looking at?
Also, I had a look outside, and I have 2 cables going from the dish. They then go into 2 switches(one is a Holland DPD2 that splits one signal to two. The other looks like another Holland switch, but they are zip tied together too tightly to see the part number. I can tell you it has 2 going in, and two going out. The installer wound up all the slack together, so I can't really tell what's what.
Is my best bet to buy a receier on ebay, then have Dish install it? Any idea how much it will cost?

Those aren't switches, those are diplexers. That's how the receiver is back-feeding the TV2 on the same coax line that takes the satellite signal to the receiver.
IMO, I would be looking for a 722 or 722k; the 622s are too old at this point and have smaller hard drives.
To install your receiver, you'll pay either $95 if you don't have the Service Plan, or $15 if you do.

You can buy a new 222K from Dish for $149, no new commitment. See BattleZone for install prices.
