My wife was watching on movie on Lifetime (channel 252) and the message for no signal came up. Its beautiful outside today so no rain fade. I checked a few other channels and noticed 253 didnt work either. My signals for all transponders are in the high 80s-90s except:

Sat 101- transponders 9-12; the signals are 0 for these 4. I did some research and Lifetime is on transponder 9. What the heck can the problem be?

by the way I have two dvrs and the problem is happening on both. My wife said it happened briefly this morning too.

Do you have a multiswitch? And what type dish? Could be a bad multiswitch if you have one, since it is happening on all receivers.

no multiswitch. All 4 lines going into the same dish. The dish I have is the big one for the HD.

now theyre back signals in the high 90s. wtf?

no trees or anything blocking

If it was a tree, it would be all the transponders on the same satellite going out at once. Since its just a few transponders on one satellite, I would say it was a bad lnb. If it happens when its colder outside, but works when its warmer, that would be one clue.

def an lnb or a corroded barrel in the line maybe in the ground block

I had a similar problem and it was indeed a Corroded barrel.

What does this mean exactly and where is the ground block?

follow the line from the problematic receiver all the way to the dish check every connector. most likely you'll find water damage in one of them.. ground block is usually located outside next to the electrical meter. if everything looks fine, the next probable cause is the lnb hope this helps

Had a similar issue that occurred at the same time every day. The time that the problem occurred shifted depending on the season. It was not a hot/cold, wet/dry situation. A tech came out and adjusted the dish and all is well. I also had a clear view of the sky and issue did not involve rain/wind.

This problem just happened again but it affected all transponders on sat 101. And then they call came back in 10 minutes. The problem with a problem like this is if I get a tech to come out here and its working at the time theyre not gonna be able to fix it.

I recently had a similar issue that necessitated a tech coming out to my house. My signal strengths would sometimes drop to zero for no weather related reason.

He was really great. The first thing he pointed out was that there were known issues with the current LNB on my slimline 3 dish. Who knew?

Anyway, he checked my satellite signal strengths before changing the LNB, and I had solid 85 to 98 readings. Then he changed the LNB and the multi way switch and ran the signal strengths again. Now I have everything higher than 90, a lot in the high 90s, and I think there were 9 readings of 100 accross 99, 101 and 103. I had no 100 readings before the change.

The tech said that he typically sees this kind of improvement when he installs the new LNB.

I have had no problems since.

I've heard of some problems that can occur with glare in the spring... could this be it?

Well it happened at nighttime last night.

I was having signal problem after a storm and I had a tech come out and he realigned the dish and ever since Ive had signals in the 97-100 range on a ton of transponders. Then this problem started happening? related?

OK I had this problem for two hours yesterday. Only this time all the transponders dropped to 0's on the 101. Then a few started jumping from 90s to 0 again. Crazy. So I called Directv and they sent someone out this morning. Good thing I took a picture of the problem because the signals were perfect this morning. Anyway, he said it was probably the LNB so he replaced it. Hopefully that solves the problem but theres no way of knowing for sure unless it happens again.

BTW I had he changed the 5 LNB to the 3 LNB. I dont receive any of the foreign programs and never will.

If the tech forgot, make sure you re-run the satellite setup for a 3 LNB dish to avoid guide data errors.

He did. Thanks
