Why would the dealers do this? On the last dealer chat the incomplete info of the dvr fees were posted here and look at the uproar it started  . I would like to know what was covered in Today's Charlie chat too ;) .

The new promotion I will pass on is THE DISH DVR UPGRADE effective August 24 through January 31 2004. DISH DVR upgrade (for existing customers prior to November 15,2002).

The DISH DVR 510 will replace the 501/508 offer.

-----Just $199 with:--------
----------1 YEAR commitment to AT100 or higher-----------
-----------Enrollment in Credit Card Autopay-----------

If you want to upgrade to the no fee PVRs do it now after August 24th the goodies will no longer qualify for the lower upgrade price. The 501/508 will continue to be fee free but will be full price after AUGUST 24.

I wish I was in the position at this time to take advantage of the cheaper 508. $199 was a good rate with no fee, however with a fee and a commitment to CCAP, lets just say I am disappointed. I would rather pay the full msrp of $299 for the 508 then to pay $199 for the 510 with the fee since the only advantage of the 510 is the larger hard drive . If I was working full time now, I would consider getting 2 508's now instead of waiting for the 522 if I could swing it now, however things are tight wright now :( .

Boba,

Dish's web site says their current offer of $199 for the 501/508 is good until Aug. 31. Are they changing the date then?

Also, are you saying that even if you purchase a 501/508 after Aug. 24 or 31, whichever it is, you won't be charged a DVR fee? I've read other posts that have said we will have to pay a DVR fee if the unit is purchased after August. Just wondering because I'm considering either purchasing a 508 before the end of Aug. or waiting a buying a 522 whenever it is released.

Thanks!

Thanks! No, the current PVR508 UPG still goes thru 8/31. There will be an overlap between 8/24 & 8/31 in which you could go either way.

It was also confirmed, for the 3rd time, that 501s, 508s & 721s are grandfathered. They will not have DVR fees no matter when they are obtained. The fee is generated by the model (rcvr #).

When the 522s come out initially in a couple of months they will be used for new DHP customers. No mention of availability or price for purchase by existing customers (today.)
