I am coming closer to buying a DirecTv sat system but have a a few more questions:

Between the RCA and Hughes basic receivers, is one better than the other? How about a comparison to the step step up in each brand? One thing I should note is that I want to use this in conjunction with an existing Tivo series 2 PVR.

The wiring I am not concerned about at all but the new oblong triple lnb dishes, are they difficult to install? My husband has installed a Dishnet Dual LNB dish on the house and also sets up a portable in the RV all the time.

It it very difficult to coordinate work hours so that an installer can come out so I am trying to avoid it if possible.

Last question, according to a chart I read somewhere, I am not sure that I even need a 3 LNB dish in order to get local channels. I live in the SF, CA area, is this true?

Thanks in advance. DBStalk is a real treasure, so glad I found it!

If you installed the Dish then a "PhaseIII" oval dish should be easy enough, you should get one even if you dont need it for locals, you will then be set for quite some time dish wise at least! The main thing to remember about this dish is the mount/pole must be bang on plumb! It will come with an installation booklet and a small level that fits into the mount/pole, and its really easy to install. You also have to set the receiver/s for three lnbs and you will be all set.

That is exactly what I hoped to hear. I am assuming that since we have been able to receive two sats through E* that we should be able to get the 3 D*.

There were a couple of posts thta I read that seem to imply that the elliptical dishes were harder to install.

Thanks Pete, for your reply. I am also welcome others input on the matter.

Yep! You should be able to get all three sats if you got two of them from "Dish"! The extra satellite is just 9 deg. to the left (from behind the dish), so as long as there is nothing right up against the dish you should be good, remember to get all the angles you need from the receiver, you get them when you set the receiver to three LNB's. And you wont be far away! If you have your pole plumb and you tune into the new 101 deg sat. the other ones should be bang on too! The phaseIII dishes are great, they are really well designed, and pull in great signals............good luck!

From what I understand, all three models come from the same factory and have the same design internally. The big difference would be between the remotes.
