Aussie Reality Show to Offer Virgins To Highest Bidder

“...I’m selling my virginity for money”,
21-year-old Veronica told the paper.
"Technically, that would be classified as
prostitution. But it’s not going to be a
regular thing, so in my head I can justify
that I’m not going to be a prostitute...I
don’t think I’ll regret it.”

From Mediaite.comThis has all the makings of a great media hoax, though so far, it appears to actually be real. Australian filmmaker Justin Sisley is currently producing a reality TV program that alleges to “sell off” three virgins to the highest bidder. According to a casting notice, the show calls for “our camera (to) follow the principal cast as they shed their virginity to a complete stranger in front of a worldwide audience.” The Australian production recently relocated to the state of Nevada, where prostitution is legal. ...More @ Mediaite.com (http://www.mediaite.com/online/this-exists-new-reality-show-plans-to-sell-virgins-to-the-highest-bidder/)

As sad as this sounds conceptually... it might not actually be prostitution OR even illegal.

Not that I'm an expert in these things... but there seems to be a weird bit of law regarding such things in the US.

It is illegal to sell yourself for sex... or to sell someone else for sex (i.e. prostitution)...

BUT

it is legal, if both participants are of legal age of consent, for you to pay 2 other people to have sex with each other as long as you film it.

This is how the pro-nography industry is able to work around the laws against prostitution.

So... in this case... the "reality" show might just be able to worm around the law in a similar way.

All that said... it is kind of a sad commentary... but then, some people will want to pay a lot of money AND other people will want to watch the circus.

If I am not mistaken, prostitution is still legal in parts of Nevada.
Provided the production company sets up shop where it is legal and follows all of the guidelines in order to get a 'brothel' license and the girl does the same, there really should be no issue.

That's the other route they can go... since they are setting up shop apparently in Nevada.

I was just pointing out that they really don't have to do that if they classify their operation as "entertainment" (since it is going to be a reality show).

The Bachelor and Bachelorette have only ended up with a true wedding what once or twice? I would be surprised if this is followed all the way through by all the participants although we would also never know as I doubt they would actually film the "deal" it would only be the contestants/winners word.

Either way I don't care they are all adults and should be able to do what they want money exchanging hands or not.
