Sigh...

:contract: And how long are you locked into the contract? Hopefully not longer than a year.

(Due to internal NDA, rant has to be deleted.)

Lets try again:( My computer crashed while putting this together the first time. I didnt know it posted till I goit the e mil message of a response:(

Ever since getting DSL I noticed a intermitent low volume on a occasional telephone call. Thats irritating but I could still hear the person but terrible because although the answering machine would pick up it wouldnt record the call.

Lost messages and ticked off customers.

Well I called Verizon, and after navigating thru voice recognition mess found the system didnt recognize low volume as a problem. Worse when it would finally transfer me to a human being it would say all agents are busy try your call again later and hang up:( ALL THE TIME!

ARRGGH, I called the regular business number and they transfered me to repair. Threatened a 91.40 charge if they didnt find a problem with their lines. We hassled about that I havent called for repair in over 10 years. Said just check to the interface. They sent a tech out, found some problems but it didnt fix it. The tech mentioned a whole house splitter filter for DSL, but didnt have it on the truck.

So I called back to ask what that would cost. Spent over 3 hours talking to DSL service, DSL repair, regular repair, business office, some retention group, and lots of other clueless folks. ALL dumb but pleasant. Ended up back at service and demanded to speak with a manager. He didnt know much but did research it. Then he tried calling to get it for me and went thu the same deal. Worse some workers wouldnt talk to him because I wasnt on the line:(

So we tried again and spent 1.5 hours getting bounced around. One rep tried to transfer him back to the department he is a supervisor for:( This was getting funny.

Well he FINALLY found a DSL billing rep that knew what the thing was:(

He left me at that point.

Then the rep said since I was a AOL powered by verizon customer there was nothing she could do and transfered me to AOL.

The rep there said the sure fix was remove the filters:( She said we guive this advice all the time it works great.

I told her its advice like this that causes churn, and is why aol is shrinking. She said she found me offensive and hung up on me.

I called AOL back and said I wanted to cancel. They were very interested in her advice and quickly agreed to install the splitter filter at no charge since verizon would do it for free.

I really like AOLs interface, espically mail. Otherwise I would of dropped them years ago.

Now the real question is will this fix my intermittent low volume? Who knows???

But it does elminate a BIG item. If that fails then I will try unplugging the modem when I get one of these calls. Can the modem put noise back on the line? After that I will unplug the interface and run the phone cord in the window. With one different phone and different answering machine it cant be me. Then I can get on verizons case. Frankly I suspect its them since all of the low volumes appear to originate in the immediate area as far as I know.

Gee my business busy time the start of school is here so I HAVE to get this solved.

I have the wierdest problems.:(

BTW no contract if I cancel I just have to return the modem, since it was no charge.

I have also thought about getting my one line back for FAX, and putting DSL on it, to minimize conflicts.

Tapped? Nope I am boring, other than complaining I would put listeners to sleep. Incidently I have NO cordless phones. Years ago I had one and listened to the neighbor girl atrranging a drug buy:(

I dont want eavesdroppers....
