View Full Version : Rent/Lease Additional Receiver?
Looking to rent / lease an additional receiver (dvr) from DN.
Is it as easy as it sounds?
I just call DN request to rent/lease additional receiver.
Will DN come out and do an install for free?
Anyone know off hand what it cost to rent an additional receiver per month?
I wanna prepare so when I call, I don't get the run around.
thanks all.

The answer is... it depends.
Some receivers can be a free upgrade if you commit to 24 months of service. It depends on your length of time with Dish, time since last upgrade, current commitment, credit record, and monthly average bill.
Some receivers can be shipped to you and you self-install with a minimal upgrade charge.
Some receivers require installation either because there is definitely some work they need to do at your home OR because they don't know if there might be.
It kinda depends on what equipment (receivers, rooms, and dishes) you have now and what you want to upgrade to have.
I've been with Dish for a little over a year now.
I'm out of contract as when I signed with Dish, there was some promotion of no contract.
So I guess every request is different then.
Makes sense I guess.
Just wanted to clarify like I said, they didn't try to give me the run around.

A technician visit is $95 if you don't have the Service Plan, and $15 if it is. On top of that, their may be an upgrade fee for the receiver, depending on your rating/history and which model you want. There will be a 2-year commitment, with an ETF of $17.50 x months remaining.
Dish has a lease limit of 3 receivers, regardless of type, and currently only one 922 can be leased per account. You can exceed this limit, but you'd have to buy additional receivers outright and pay any costs necessary to get them connected. There is no commitment associated with owned receivers.

I currently have the 722 receiver.
I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a receiver for my 3rd TV so that TV can have its own independent viewing.
So I can rent/lease an additional receiver from Dish for X amount per month or... I can purchase a receiver?
How does the purchase work? I guess in the long run it is cheaper than renting, right? Do I purchase from Dish or Ebay?

Jedi,
If you call Dish, there's a good chance that Dish will lease you a 311 for free, though you'll have to pay for installation (Tech Visit - $95 or $15, depending on if you have the Service Plan).
If you prefer to purchase, you can buy a 311 directly from Dish ($149 + $15 S&H), or from any Dish retailer (even me) for a little less. You'll have to install it yourself. Or, you can try to find one on eBay, but if you go that route, you need to be certain of a few things before you bid:
Get the receiver number (R00...) and call Dish to make sure the receiver is owned and not leased (leased receivers cannot be transferred between accounts), and that it isn't active on any account, and that there is no outstanding balance associated with it. If all that is okay, then you can buy it and add it to your account.

If he has a 722, chances are he'd have to get a 211. Same monthly fee for the additional box.

Thanks for your help with this.
I'm still a little lost though...
So I purchase a receiver from either you or Ebay.
With this I now do not have to worry about a monthly lease fee.
But I still have to activate my smart card, right?
I call Dish who will activate my card for this new receiver and that's it?
I guess what asking is there will be no additional fee on my bill for this
new receiver I just bought and activated?
Thanks.

No matter how you get that additional receiver, there will be an additional receiver programming fee, $7 for a 311/301 or 211, $10 for a 512 DVR or 612 HDDVR.
Also, there is no option to get a leased 311. It's only available as purchased for $149 + install.
