I just noticed that there is a fee for any disconnects regarding adult programming. :nono:
I guess the CSR requires extra effort in clicking the little radio button for adult packages. :nono2:
Just saying...

Adult programming is more expensive than most channels. The thought of someone subscribing to a month of something then canceling it after a couple of days (instead of using one of the three hour PPV options). Just a little extra penalty.

Aren't you charged the fee regardless of how long you have the channel?

Aren't you charged the fee regardless of how long you have the channel?Correct.
Most of the adult channels are $29.99 per month with a couple of multi-channel packages for $39.99 and Playboy being the cheap channel at $15.99. For $20 a subscriber could watch the channels for another month ... or at least most of a month.
No doubt the higher disconnect fee is a "because we can" fee. But then the $5 downgrade fee on other programming could also be considered a "because we can" fee. The CSR doesn't need to click any buttons for me to cancel programming online - yet a fee is charged.
Think of it as an "are you sure?" popup that confirms that one is really sure they want to cancel programming enough to pay a fee to not be able to watch something any more.
There may be some contract reason where DISH has to pay for a full month even when people cancel - but at the end of the argument there is a fee. It is disclosed online and on the bill. And it can be charged.

Anything that's considered "sinful" is fair game apparently. This gives us high taxes on things like booze and smokes and high fees on x-rated material (to watch or stop watching it). That's what you get for wanting to have some fun!

The origin of these kinds of downgrade fees goes back to when people used to sign up for, say, HBO for a Saturday night boxing fight and then cancel the next day... So that instead of paying $10 for a month of HBO, they only paid 33 cents or so.
After people sufficiently abused that, companies started instituting penalty fees to downgrade certain kinds of programming.
The fact that adult programming costs $20 to downgrade, rather than the $5 fee for other downgrades... says to me that people were abusing that specific kind of downgrade more... and that apparently a $5 downgrade fee wasn't a stiff enough penalty.
Agreed that it is a "because we can" fee... but unlike other fees that are entirely born from "because we can"... these specific fees also contain a component of trying to curb customers constantly adding/dropping programming just for a day or a weekend.
It's like the people who abuse laptop/cellphone return policies by buying one for a trip... then when they return from the trip, take the thing back for a refund. Companies started instituting restocking fees to try and curb this behavior... but some people still think it worth the fee for the temporary use.

I called and went off on a few of the CSRs about false advertising. If you haven't checked, DishNetwork does NOT have 200 HD channels and is also does NOT have Playboy in HD. Since January, DishNetwork website has been posting Playboy HD on channel 488! While its on channel 489 in SD. To make a long story short, they waived that fee. I am tired of paying $300+ a month.

(as you can see, my questions to why the website is posting false information went unanswered since its still the same!)
If you have highspeed internet, like I do with Verizon Fios.... Checkout FyreTV. I've been a beta tester since day one and its a much better source for porn.

Do you feel like a real man now going off on a few people who make $12-$15 an hour and have no control over what is on Dish's website? Oh wait, your screen name says "boy" not really surprised, tho dropping the "nice" off of it might be wise.
It's not Dish's fault your spending $300 a month on your habit. It's yours. But after reading your post, I'm not really surprised... :nono2:

I have to admit, I did this all the time. But I wasn't a "regular" Dish customer.
I was a DishNOW! prepaid customer, and this was one the options they offered to us, so I never felt like I was doing anything wrong. They offered this type of service in the setup for close to 3 years. Up until last August 2009 or so when they changed the prepay service to something else, which caused me to leave.
It was actually a superbeneficial setup for customers who either lived on a fixed income, or had a vacation home that they only used on weekends.
It was an awesome setup for customers. Probably the only awesome tv setup(other than free OTA) that actually really benefited the customer since the inception of pay tv.
I knew it was too good to last though;), but I got my money's worth out of the DishNOW! prepaid setup, so I really have no complaints.
Other than the fact that I have a DP301(which I converted to the FLEXTV setup so it would not be completely useless. I just don't use it anymore), and Dish 500 that is collecting dust. But it was definitely worth the $100 I paid for it initially for the setup.

Playboy HD is indeed on Ch 488.
Let me guess, you have two dishes. One pointed at 110 and 119 and the other at 61.5. :rolleyes:I see Playboy SD on 488 and 489 (uplinked on 119 and 72). Channel 488 is the $15.99 monthly and channel 489 is the $9.99 four hour. Hustler HD is available on 497 (uplinked on 129 and 61.5) with the SD on 496 (119 / 72).
Hustler HD is listed as a $13.99 pay per view channel on the DISH website (https://customersupport.dishnetwork.com/customercare/payperview/prepAdultList.do).
I'm not sure why the logo is there on the page (http://www.dishnetwork.com/premiums/default.aspx) nicedeboy linked. Playboy isn't HD.
I'm also not sure why it took so long to notice that the content wasn't in HD. Seems like most would notice that on the first day.

I love how people can be so rude on here without actually knowing the truth.... Check again, DishNetwork does NOT have Playboy HD and Dish Network does NOT have 200 HD channels.
If you want to get personal, I have four DishNetwork Dishes outside. This line from entirely DIFFERENT POST:
"I have the "everything" pack, 3 HD receivers and my bill is about $150. "everything” pack only means that you get all the movie packages and america's top 250. You do save a few bucks if you were to add everything separately."
does not include any of the extra adult channels or sports channels. I did not feel that post needed the extra information and price rates to mess up the orignal person's question. As for me going off on CSR's, that's a long time coming. It started back from day one. I have a long history with the company, its standards, its technology, and its programming. A new month, an entirely new problem.
I am NOT checking back on this topic any longer, I said my peace. If the person/people earlier has a problem with me, then they should take me aside and speak to me about it. NOT take it out here. Final and last warning.

Well said :D
Most of the adult channels are $29.99 per month with a couple of multi-channel packages for $39.99 and Playboy being the cheap channel at $15.99.As part of AEP, Playboy is only $7. $20 to cancel a $7 channel is pretty rigid no matter how you stack it.

It's called an "arousal penalty."

if DishNetwork stops charging $20 disconnect fee for XXX adult progrmming,
will it make more or less money on such programming?
isn't it better to make $29 when someone orders the XXX channel for just
one month? DishNetworks makes $0 when someone decides that $20 is
too much to pay to disconnect XXX channel. $29 or $0.... :)

if DishNetwork stops charging $20 disconnect fee for XXX adult progrmming, will it make more or less money on such programming? If they drop the fee down to the standard $5 disconnect they will likely lose money. The other solution would be a minimum monthly charge so people couldn't add, for example, Playboy for a day (a $15.99 monthly charge channel) and pay a pro rated portion of the monthly fee plus $5 disconnect fee instead of paying the $9.99 for four hour rate that DISH charges for the PPV version.
(For more than 8 consecutive hours it is still cheaper to add and drop the channel even with the $20 fee than pay the PPV rate. It is cheaper to just keep the subscription for a month if you buy more than one PPV block.)
isn't it better to make $29 when someone orders the XXX channel for just one month? DishNetworks makes $0 when someone decides that $20 is too much to pay to disconnect XXX channel. $29 or $0.... :)
I wonder how many of the "adult" purchases are done by guests/kids or disputed by the customer? This kind of penalty would encourage people to be more careful with their accounts.
