Having (hopefully) installers back out today. they came out yesterday to install DECA/MRV, but the CSR did not put a SWM 16 on the work order and with 5 DVR's it's necessary. I had to tell the first installer that a SWM 8 would not work. He called his supervisor who came out and confirmed the need for SWM 16. There's a learning curve and that's OK with me. My anger lies with the CSR.
My question is this. I have a 5LNB with 4 lines running into the house connected to a Zinwell 16 Multi switch. The installer suggested putting a SWM on the dish and just having 1 line into the house and then a SWM 16 to replace the Zinwell. But if I already have four lines coming in, can't they just use these lines and insert the SWM 16. They are going to replace the 5LNB with a 3LNB, LOS issues, since I don't need anything off the 119.
Any information, advice greatly appreciated.

First, what the installer suggested won't work. You can't connect an SWM dish to an SWM switch. To use the SWM8 or SWM16 you have to have a regular slimline (3 or 5 lnb) and four cables from the dish to the multiswitch.
Second, if there was no SWM16 available the installer should have used four wideband power-passing splitters and two SWM8s, that is the standard way to do this if you have more than eight tuners.

The SWM16 cannot run off the single line from the SL3 or SL5-SWM LNB. It needs at a minimum the 4 outputs from either a SL3 or SL5 (non SWM) LNB.

What the installer needs to do if you're having LOS problems with 119 is to install a SL3 LNB on your dish, use the existing 4 coax runs to your home and from there hook a SWM16.

Hope this helps.

The only problem w/ using 2 SWM8s is that it will not support network access to all receivers if using DECA. It is my understanding ( & I could be wrong) that when using 2 SWM8s, all MRV receivers have to be on the same SWM8 in order to be able to communicate. Where the OP has 5 DVRs, 1 of them would have to be on the 2nd SWM8 & wouldn't be able to play w/ the other 4.

thank you so much to all. :) This information will undoubtably be huge, if and when the installer comes back. I'm sure he will be most appreciative of the insight I will provide to him by way of the awesome forum.
Thanks!!
