View Full Version : PVR 508 recording quality options ?
Just got my 508 and hooked it up this past weekend. I thought I had read somewhere that you could vary the recording quality, but I don't see that mentioned in the manual and couldn't find any such option in the menus. Can someone please let me know the deal.
Also, my first test recording last night failed to work b/c my 508 is plugged into the back of my home theater receiver. In other words, the powering up of the 508 requires the powering up of the receiver. Do i have to plug it in separately? I guess that is preferred since I don't want my receiver turning on for every recording.

Hi Adam,
No, there is no quality setting on the 508, or any integrated satellite receiver/DVR from either provider for that matter. The picture and audio quality of a recording is the same as if you were watching it live. As for your second question, yes the 508 will have to be plugged into its own outlet since when your HT receiver is off its not sending any juice to the outlet in the back, so hooking it up that way, when the HT receiver is off is essentially equivalent to having the 508 unplugged.

Thanks- steve. I'll give it its own outlet pronto !
Also, you never want it unplugged. It's never really "off" anyway, just the display and front-panel/remote controls are put to sleep (other than the power, of course). Since the 508 gets its guide information by tuning to a particular transponder (and it thinks it doesn't have permission to arbitrarily change channels when on) It does that when you turn it "off". If you remove the power when not in use, your guide could run out of info.
