I have a question about projection TV. If you were buying one today, what manufacturer would you go with as far as picture quality and equipment quality? I'm thinking about getting a 43 inch and am considering a unit made either by Hitachi or Mitsubishi in a 16x9 screen. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I had a Mits, but I returned it as the Glare was so bad you had to turn all the lights off just to watch it.

I got a Sony.

Compare all the models in the store. Turn the set OFF then compare the glare.

Also compare the stretch modes- this is very important has most shows are not in HDTV yet.

I have had good experiences with Mitsubishi RPTVs. They are well built and the PQ is top notch. My last Mits RPTV I had for 8 years and it still worked when I sold it.

I have last year's Hitachi top of the line model, . . . the SWX20B and love it.

This unit had a number of new parts on the inside last year (wide neck lens system, CRT, etc), . . . so I was a bit nervous about going this way at first. Many of the early adopters were reporting excellent picture quality (improved from the prior SWX10B models) and no major technical issues after the first 6 months, so this is the way I went. Happy to report that I have had no issues in the first year, and it is an excellent unit.

I believe it is still Hitachi's top of the line system (although they have the XWX series which adds an integrated HDTV tuner). One thing to note, I notice you were thinking of a 43 inch set, . . . on a 16X9 aspect system, that equates to about a 35 inch TV in a 4:3 system given the diagonal measurement.

In this case, . . . bigger is better IMHO.

Good Luck.
