Any D TIVOS have RF remotes? If only IR can you change addresses? I guess I could send the IR commands back on the cable. Jen likes the noisey hard drives in the basement. UHF remotes are ideal for this.

Good price for self install purchase 3 slot dish? I might put the dish up before winter and add recivers later. Jens idea dont ask.

Jen wants 3 receivers, as we have on again off again house guests. The last time they stayed 7 months:(

What sort of switch supports 3 slots, 3 D TIVOS? 6 sat feeds.

For those who converted what will we really miss?

Does D honor the out of area netsv with a RV or moved address?

At least with pittsburgh locals up the supers pack although nice isnt a showstopper.

Will are heavy use of PVR cause grief?

I am sure we have more questions but I cant think of them right now.

Only UHF remotes on the DirecTiVos. Though you can always buy that set of pyramids from the Rat Shack and RF the IR signals with that. I do that with my secondary receiver and it works fine.

I take it you want 1 DirecTiVo and two ordinary receivers. Valueelectronics.com probably has the best price, they take off $50 if you do your own installation. They currently have that setup with the triple LNB dish for $199.96 installed, $149.96 self-installed.

If you want three DirecTiVos on a multi-sat dish, you'll need to either replace the built-in switch on the dish with a 4x8 or get a cascadable 4x8 to get enough feeds. I don't have personal experience with this, so someone else probably knows better than I.

For those who converted what will we really miss?

I made the switch in March, and the only thing I miss is how the lineup is arranged. Dish grouped channels logically, Directv doesn't. Other than that, I truly believe Directv outshines Dish in every other category.

Yep.

Heavy use of the PVR causes NO grief. Unlike Echostar's Digital VCRs, TiVo uses the ultra-stable Linux platform, which has yet to fail me ONCE. Now in my fifth month of ownership, I have yet to reset or pull the smartcard. I had to pull the card AT LEAST once a week with my 501. You could load as many timers as you want and Tivo won't care because it's built not to care.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with switching. If PVRs are your main concern, and they appear to be, the DSR7000 and the HDVR2 are two solid machines that won't let you down. Do yourself a favor and make the switch ASAP.

Yes. Take a look at the attached picture of the infamous Peanut remote. Circled in red is a switch which allows you to control either "DVR 1" or "DVR 2." Just flick the switch to the right DVR (setting that up in the menus) and you're all set.

Bob,
You may have a problem with HD space. I know you are a heavy user, but the good news is that you can easily upgrade the TIVO. The one thing I miss with the TIVO is that there is no favorites in the guide (well, there is one, but that dosen't really count.)

Yes! Upgrade and replace when hard drives go bad. Thats a definite plus!
