Stumped...

Trying to install one H20-100 receiver. I plugged in the zipcode where it is located (46703). That gave me the following coordinates:

Elevation: 39
Azim: 208
Tilt: 72

I have also confirmed the same numbers from dishpointer.com.

I believe my dish is the Slimline 5 LNB (non SWM). It is listed as Model: AU( (no -S or -S-SWM). It has 4 outputs from that. I have tried all of them. I take one of the lines directly into the SAT IN on the H20-100.

From there, I select the Slimline 5 LNB dish, with the Multi Switch option in the DTV Satellite Setup menu. I scroll through all the different transponders, along with all the different satellites. I have slowly moved the dish across the sky. Still, I have never seen any signal reading.

What am I doing wrong?! I am driving myself nuts. I have 18 options for dishes, does it sound like I am selecting the right one? Do I HAVE to have a B-Band Converter (even just to receive a signal)? The pole is level, the settings on the dish are correct (as far as I know). I also have two black dials with white numbers on the dish. I have not touched those.

Looking for some guidance. I REALLY appreciate the help. I spent all afternoon working on this to no avail.

Thanks!

First off welcome. :welcome_s

Haven't done an install in ages so let me try to remember this.
Your dishtype should be 04: Slimline 5, assuming you have a 5 and not a 3.
Multiswitch is correct

You should be able to get channel info and signal strength from the 101 sat without any BBC. You won't get much on the other SATs without them but get the 101 to give you high signal strenghts in the 90s.

The 99 and 103 sats will need BBC's and are much hard to get. So start with only the 101. If you can't get that, the rest are going to be impossible.

BTW as you move the dish, the movements should be very tiny.

How are you setting the elevation?

There is a line you use read what the elevation is set to not just the bolt in the slot.

101 would be the first thing to find and should have a bit of wiggle so should come in assuming you are setting everything correctly.

They say pictures speak a thousand words....maybe these will help. The Red Line is actually spot on, but looks off due to the angle of the pictures. The other is of the level for the arm. I am certain the connections are all good. I used to do home automation a few years back, so I still have all compression fittings, etc....

I am using the the compass on my iPhone for the AZIM. Could this be the problem?

This one has me puzzled. Apparently, I am no good when it comes to satellite.

Any ideas now? Thanks for all the help!

TRY Dishpointer.com for you address to check the settings and to verify good line of sight

Thanks for the tips. Tried Dishpointer as well. Settings at the local sat shop are correct too. Also tried a new LNB. Any other ideas? I think I'm going to have to have them come out next week.

First of all using an iphone doesn't help you, since you have the dish on a poll, try getting a small tv as close to the dish as possible, set the dtv box to signal meter, set the elevation to 39 degrees, tilt at 78, look at your compass, start at sw and move west, you will be proximately 10-15 degrees west from south. Move the dish slowly and you will see the signal pop up on the screen, once you get at least some signal, lock the dish down, unscrew the side supporting bolts holding the elevation and the azimuth bolts on bottom front, now you can use the dials to fine tune the dish.

Yes make sure you loosen those bolts or otherwise you will break the adjusting dials.
