It looks like ESPN is starting a new drama series, Playmakers. It begins on Aug 26. It's based on the problems in sports, such as drug use, infidelity, etc. basically just like any other drama on TV.
If you ask me, the fact that such shows like this and Beg, Borrow, & Deal are only remotely related with sports are nothing more than an excuse to be on ESPN. I can tolerate an occasional movie, but a series?
ESPN is totally selling out with these two shows. When will you get it right, ESPN? When you cut ties with Michael Eisner?

Well, how long will this series last?

They are going to go the way of MTV where you can't even see a Music Video anymore.

They have to do something to fill in that huge, gaping lack of HD hole they have.

I'd rather have NHL2Night regularly televised on ESPN2 then stuff like this.

Yep. There are 20-30 general channels likely to have a TV movie on any given time. Why would ESPN want to jump into that mob, particularly with a theme that has be overdone to death for decades?

Memo to ESPN:

Show the game,
show highlights of the game,
preview the next game.
