What will the new 811 and 921 (and even the 6000) receivers do with all that ABC HDTV programing that only come out as 720p

Not all of the TV can do 720p

Will they convert up or down?

Do we loose any picture quality?

most HD receivers that I've heard of convert to the signal your tv accepts, so in your case, Yes, you will get all hd on your 1080i set...

Yes my Toshiba only does 480/480p and 1080i, my Dish 6000 converts everything it gets to 1080i including my local 720p ABC station without a problem. :)

No worries.

Now only if the Dish receivers could output ESPN-HD in "CIRCLE SURROUND" many would be happy. I don't understand why ESPN-HD chose Circle Surround over Dolby Digital when there is hardly any receivers out there that can process Circle Surround. (And I am not upgrading my Denon receiver just for the addition of ANOTHER surround mode.

I'd be thrilled if my Dish 6000 would output ESPN-HD at all!
;)

Or HD-Net, CinemaxHD, StarzHD, etc. etc. etc. :nono:

From my quick web search, circle surround is yet another matrix encoded surround system. Does your Denon not to Pro Logic or Pro Logic 2 (which Circle claims to be backwards compatable with?)

Besides, according to the ATSC website, only AC3 (Dolby Digital) is recognized as a sound format.

So they're matrixing 5.1 over dolby 2.0. silly people.....?

My Denon AVR-4802 does Prologic II. I listened to CSII via PLII and it sounded, well, like PLII. It wasn't bad, just not discrete DD5.1 like MNF.

That has to be the most annoying signature on this board.

BTW: I'm sure that Circle Sound paid good $$$ to ESPN-HD to become their standard. Think about it, it you were shopping for a receiver and one had Just DD5.1 and the other had Both CS and DD. All other things being equal (or even just good enough) wouldn't you now go for the one with both?
