Is that last night we got a bad bad storm and my aunt lives next door and also has Dish well a tree fell on their house knocking there Dish off the side of the house, they wasn't hurt Thank God and my uncle spent all day fixing everything up, But they dont have the Protection plan so Dish is charging them $95 to come out and fix it and I just dont think this is right i mean it was an act of God and could not be helped so in this case I dont think Dish should charge at all.

and why should Dish have to pay for it. They didn't cause the storm. They didn't cause the tree to fall. They gave them the option to carry DHPP and the call would have been on $15. It was your aunt choice not to carry the insurance, and instances like this is exactly why they offer the insurance.

...it was an act of God and could not be helped...."Acts of God" exclusions are common in warranties, service contracts, and insurance. Nevertheless, in this case had there been coverage in place, Dish would have handled it for a lower charge.
I don't have the coverage and I know what the risks are. So should everyone.

Satellite has chosen a business model where each individual subscriber has to pay for service if necessary (or take the Service plan), after all those technicians don't work for free (nor should they) and they have to pay them somehow. The other option is to have a model like cable where they just charge everyone more so they can cover the cost of service calls. I actually prefer the satellite way of doing it where I pay a little less monthly for programming and then only pay for service if I actually need it.

Unfortunately repairs cost money. The DHPP prepays the expense (with the $15 charge preventing people from overusing it).
The cost of sending someone out isn't free. If you dealt with a local installer you MIGHT be able to get them to work on it for free or cheap as a good will gesture (but don't expect it).
If it was an act of God can you send Him the bill?
Homeowner's/renter's insurance may cover the repairs (especially if bundled in with other repairs to meet the deductible). Otherwise, sorry.
I laugh every time I read "acts of god" in some sort of contract. Dish can't be expected to support everything. ~$100 is reasonable to send a truck and a new dish out and get it all back up and running.

Just put the dish back up yourselves. If money is that tight, DIY to the rescue. It really isn't that difficullt if you are moderately handy and have a compass.

There are many things I don't like about dish, this is not one of them.Try being a Dish retailer and dealing with them on what should be paid on this type of job.Monthly residuals my ass.

Yeah, not to pile on... but it costs money to replace the damaged parts and they have to pay someone to drive out there and do the work.
Any time you think to ask "why doesn't Dish do this for me for free" ask yourself IF you were a satellite installer, would you work that day for free?
Gee everyone is defending DISH's right to charge for the repair. How about a suggestion that your aunt subscribe to the protection plan now and take advantage of the lower prices. Before the change in prices in Feb CSR would suggest signing up and cancelling on completion of repair. The only change I have seen is a $25 cancellation which would still be cheaper than $99 fee.

Well they decided to go the upgrade route it only cost them $65 instead of the $95.

If it was an "act of god", then "god" should pay. Good luck finding him...

What of the horrible job E* installers typically do caused the dish to fall. I bet if it was installed correctly maybe it could have withstood the tree?

Here in east TN falling trees take out 100s of dishes per year,You would not believe some of the messes I've fixed over the years.
Last one I did a DirecTV phase III and Hughesnet pole mount where flattened out like a pancake.Customer did try and fix the Hughesnet:lol:
I replaced everything and the customer was shocked at the final bill,I told him sorry and to contact his home owners insurance company.

Really? When a tree falls, something usually breaks. If you drop even a small tree on a dish, not even 12 lag screws and 2 sets of struts is going to be much help. BTW, I professionally and personally resent your characterization of E* installers. Please support your characterization with facts or retract it.

I thought he was joking.

He was clearly either mocking the people who think DISH should pay for it or just making a joke for the heck of it. We all know the physics behind falling trees.

Yeah, but what happens when a tree falls and no one is around? ;)

Its hard to get humor on the internet sometimes. I have seen both E* and D* installers bust there balls to do an amazing install. The joke was obviously not recieved. This one was however.

Apology offered...reading too many complaint posts about installers, and I think my blood sugar was low that day...:icon_peac
