Don't think there's a solution to this but I thought I would ask anyway.
At fathers house last weekend. He's on WA with 61.5 for local HD. Told me he was losing picture every now and then and experiencing a lot of pixilation. I told him that was to be expected on his locals because of the trees in the line of 61.5. He said it wasn't so much the locals but mainly on HBO and Cinemax. His WA has an almost clear line of sight so I thought I'd check things out.
Tuned to ch 313. Picture freezes and distorts when it returns. I hit the info button twice. Just as I suspected, the 622 was looking at 61.5 instead of 129 for Cinemax.
I tried to tweak 61.5. Got SS up from teens and low twenties to about 24. Mainly TPs 10,19(no signal), 20,21,22,24,25,26,31. TP 5 in mid fifties(spot beam for his locals). Why does the receiver not lock on to the sat where the signal is the strongest when there is a duplication of channels between sats received? I disconnected the 61.5 to force the 622 to see 129. Told my father he would lose HD on 4 locals but everything else would be stable. SD locals on 110. He said that would be fine for now.
I guess my question is: Is there any way for the receiver to look at 61.5 only for locals (TP 5; strong signal, maybe because it's a spot?) and the WA for everything else? And why does the receiver some days look at 61.5 and another day 129 for the same channel?
I had this problem myself so last year I switched to partial EA.(61.5 & 72.7 only) No go for him due to trees. Though TP 5 for his HD locals is strong.

Dish supplies anywhere from 4 to 6 channels on each transponder with all the channels from 61.5 using most of the transponders. If one transponder signal is low, it only effects the channels supplied by that particular transponder. When pointing the dish, you need to have a fairly high signal strength on all the transponders your channels are on. Having a high signal strength on one transponder over the others will give you the channels on that transponder while losing the ones with the very low strength (in other words, the problem you are having now).

Hi. Thanks for the response. I understand that. I may not have been clear. The receiver is trying to pickup channels(some HBO some Cinemax FoxNews and a few others that are on both 61.5 and 129) from 61.5 where the SS is very low. He's on WA w/ wing @ 61.5 for HD locals. The only thing he needs 61.5 for are the HD locals.(TP 5 SS 56) Everything else, HBO, CINEMAX etc should be coming from WA 129 where there is plenty of signal strength. Some days they are coming from 129. Other days the same channels are coming from 61.5 and that's when he has reception problems. For instance; FoxNews, sat 61.5 TP 26 SS 16 should always be coming from sat 129 TP 28 SS 52. IMO the receiver should be able to default to the stronger sat when tuning to channels that are available on two different sats of a particular setup.
In my setup (72.7 61.5 110 to DPP33) some days I'll get HDNMovies from 110 and other days from 72.7. Strong signal from all 3 sats so no problem for me.(except when recording and recvr decides to switch sats which then ends the recording. a complaint for another time.)
