View Full Version : Can I get a SWiM-16 this way?

As you can see in my sig, I have 5 HR-2x's on my self-installed SWiM-8.

Yes, two of the HD-DVRs have been dumbed down to one tuner.

If I order a additional HD-DVR via D*, and ask for "professional installation" will the installer replace my self-installed 8 with a 16? I assume yes...but will the installation be free?

If I order a HR-24 from a 3rd party retailer, can I still get free "professional installation"? Will it matter if it's online, or Best Buy, etc.?

Thanks

(...and yes I would remove all of my diplexing before the installer showed up!)

You should be upgraded to a SWM-16. I don't think you'll get installation if you buy from a retailer.

A long long time ago, I leased an H20 from Wal Mart. I did not have the HD Dish at the time. I called and got "prof. installation". I would assume you can call for an install with your current setup, as you are not utilizing your equipment to its potential. I would start by calling and playing dumb, Only one tuner works why? is it broken? They will likely take care of you.

(...and yes I would remove all of my diplexing before the installer showed up!)If you can afford it and want MRV, I'd call to get the "Whole Home" upgrade, which typicaly goes for $99 and a $49 install fee. (My CSR was nice enough to waive the install fee.) Not only will you get a SWiM 16, but some installers are replacing the HR20-100's, because they're a bit tricky to set-up for MRV. If your installer is so inclined, you may luck out and get an HR24 in its place. Worth a shot.

Hmmm...a good idea.

But, for now, I value being able to diplex OTA, over having MRV.

Yes...I know...I know...separate OTA coax runs are the best. I get it. But, the cost to install...and the damage to my all brick home with a "concrete tub" basement isn't attractive.
