I just got told by a DISH operator that I could not download from the
"my recordings" to an external VCR . . Can't believe it; can someone tell me how
or can someone sugest how I CAN record a portable copy of one or more recordings on my 711 receiver. Thanks Nominday

connect your VCR to some outputs (either the composite video / analog audio RCA or via the RF output) and tuner your VCR to the output channel, start recording on the VCR, start playing the DVR recording. Stop both at the end.
There "maybe" some macrovision crap that prevents, but if there isn't, the above is all you need. You might want to use TV2 output in Dual mode to do your recording (to preserve proper aspect ratios).

why do you want to move your recording to tape?

We've done this before by putting the kids' programs on DVDs. An eight-hour trip by car for two little kids is a long time. As a previous poster said, put the output to a recording device, hit "play", and then start the recording on the VCR or DVD recorder. If you're going to save them, burn them to DVD. You'll lose less quality.

Coz I've recorded Indycar races from the Versus channel which I'd like to show at my shop where I don't have dish.

Only reason I asked, and purtman answered it already. As DVD would have been another way of doing it, just as scooper said to do it.
