Does anyone know of any brick-and-mortar stores where I can purchase a Slimline dish? I would normally order it online or hire a technician to provide one and install it, but I'd probably have to wait over a week for that to happen. I want to install it myself before the World Cup kickoff on Friday.
If you know of a place anywhere from NY to Boston that sells it, please let me know. Thanks!

Short of a local retailer in your area, no. Dishes come in huge boxes and are heavy, so they aren't normally stocked locally by big-box retailers.

Try craigslist. I've seen them on there here in Raleigh before.

Well yeah, I wasn't expecting big-box retailers to sell them. I'm just wondering if there's any satellite equipment company that'll let you purchase a dish and pick it up from their warehouse or something.

I did, but I figured I'd ask here as well. The condition of the ones on craigslist don't look too great though ;)

Does it come with the BBQ tank or do you have to supply your own?
I have picked up the slimline I am using along with a spare on CL, both for free. Keep looking :)

ansdofuno, I don't know your equipment, setup or if you have any intention of going to Whole Home DVR, but you might want to consider your options. I just recently upgraded to the D* Whole Home system, where I can see what records on one DVR on another DVR, plus I can download stuff from Directv On Demand, etc. If you would be interested in any of that you could call up D* and order/negotiate the upgrade.
In my case they added the DECA unit for my computer and charged an installation rate, so my bill was just over $76.00 and anything else that needed to be installed or fixed was included. When the installer came he said my Slimline antenna was faded and he replaced that, put on a new single LNB (that goes with SWiM), added SWiM to the wiring, installed the internet DECA unit, installed two other DECA units on two of my DVR's and tested the entire system. As I said my out-of-pocket cost was $76.00 and I am paying $3.00 a month for the Whole Home system. I am also a Protection Plan subscriber, but I don't think that came into play because nothing was actually broken.
The installation was done two days after ordering and I am happy with the results. So my point is to consider all your options.
