How can lighting pass thru a surge protector and hit one appliance, but not get 4 others, all on the same strip? Atleast thats what happen to me. It fried my RCA 485RG, now it gets hot enough that you can fry an egg on it. I guess it could used for a toaster/warmer. :(
was every wire hooked to surge protector that goes to 485 (coax, ph line and A/C)

Yes, every line that went to the 485 went thru a RCA surge protector. And the surge protector survived the hit. I've contacted RCA to see what they will do at this point. Still waiting for a reply from them.
I had lighting come in on a garage door door opener a couple years ago, one identical only a few feet away on the same circuit was not damaged.
Where was it plugged in on the protector?
Where there other appliances plugged in behing and in front of it.
Could be a flaw within the protector that the one plug wasn't guarded - maybe a miswire.
Really interested to hear how this turns out for you.

Hello psycaz, The sat. recvr. is plugged in the middle, with other appliances in front and behind it. It could be a mis-wire. I have to send the protector back to them and they will examine it and replace it . But since it is unharmed I don't know what they do about reimbursing on the sat. recvr. I figure they'll weasel out of it one way or the other.
That's too bad you're gonna be at the mercy of them. Maybe they will come through and help out.

Good News, efi the company that makes the surge protector that is described above sent me a letter today. And stated they were going to reimburse me for my recv'r that I purchased to replace the one that got zapped by lightning. WOW, :jumpingja I nearly fainted.
