View Full Version : Upgrading to MRV via DECA, what should I have ready?
How does DECA bridge to my home network? Where service comes into my house/garage, I have a router close by. Also, where there is a home run in my attic for the upstairs, there is a network switch.
Does it matter where the tech puts the DECA bridge? Either way, I can have an ethernet wire pulled to either spot.

It doesn't matter really, just anywhere there is an open network connection.

I am also upgrading to MRV next week. Since it will be connected to the internet, will I be able to access the "On Demand" programming? TIA.

Yes.

A lot of installers are not connecting a DECA to the router. They seem to think an Ethernet connection from the router to the back of receiver is still the way to connect to the Internet. It is NOT under a DECA Cloud.

Wow, thanks guys. I knew you would be fast responding to a non-tech guru like me. A couple of other questions. I have AT&T DSL, not the lite and not the ultra, but the middle of the road. Will I need to upgrade that? Also, one of my 4 HD DVR's is an HR20-100. I have a D*-supported 1 TB eSata (the one recommended on here, and it works great) attached to that DVR. My question is, will I be able to keep that eSata "in my system," or will that have to go away? And again, I say thanks in advance.

Your ISP status doesn't need to change. What you have will work. You just need to have the DECA for bridging to your home network for the internet access.
The eSATA also doesn't get affected "but" the HR20-100 has been known to be a bit troublesome to get working with DECA. Before the tech swaps it out, you might want to run everything by us here to see if there is something he's missing that will let you keep the -100. Otherwise some techs seem to simply swap them out and you'll lose all your recordings, since the eSATA won't play them on another receiver.

Thank you sooooo much. Will do. I also hate to lose my HR20 because of my OTA sub channels I receive. Of course, I could buy an AM-21 (I think that is what it is called). Again, thanks.
