View Full Version : How much should an HD upgrade cost?

I just got off of the phone with a Dish CSR. I am looking to upgrade to HD with a single 722k DVR receiver. I have been a customer for 13 years and have never been late with a payment.

I was told it would be $95 for the service call (which I was expecting) and $100 upgrade fee (which I was not expecting), even if I signed a new two year contract.

I've been reading this forum for months and it seems that others are getting this upgrade for free. Is this the case? Am I missing something?

as of June 3, $100 or $200 for the HD receivers (not sure about the 922) for upgrades depending on which category you fall under + the service call ($15 w/DHPP and $95 W/O).

I upgraded to HD about 2 years ago and paid $100, but it was for a 622 and had to re-up a new 2 yr commitment. I ended up getting a 722 only because the installer was out of 622s.

I suspect they are busy with folks upgrading to HD right now. Maybe try calling back to another CSR or wait a month or so.

:) I have always gotten better luck calling 800 numbers later in the evening, so that you are talking to someone on the graveyard shift -- they are always more easygoing... :)

I think "upgrade" fees are a crock. Just another way to rip customers off. Since you're a long term customer in good standing, it might be worth another call to see if you can get it waived. I go through the same thing with our cell phone service provider (AT&T). They want to ding us $18 any time we upgrade a phone even though we're extending our service commitment. Their rationale? Everyone else charges those fees!

Well thanks, that explains it. I wish I had known this before June 3...

Yeah, that's not going to happen.

Those prices have actually been in effect since Feb 1, 2010, when they were LOWERED from their previous prices.

As stated, "Tech Visit Fee" is $15 (w/Service Plan) or $95 (wo/Service Plan) plus aplicable receiver upgrade fee.

Receiver upgrade fees..............Plan "A".............Plan "B"

Any mpeg2 receiver
311/322/512/522/625................$0.....................$0

VIP 922...................................$200........ ........$400

VIP 612/622/722(k)..................$100.................$200

VIP 211/222(k).........................$50................ ..$100

Been told that there will no longer be any "CSR roulette" deal making going on

I got my 211k in December for nothing, free installation but I re-upped for another 2 years. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Hell, still does.

I got a post card in the mail last week that told me that I was a good customer and was eligble to receive an HDDVR, 3 months of HBO and Showtime, and 5 free PPV's for free if I signed a new 2 year agreement. So, I don't believe those prices are set in stone for everyone and I bet you can get a better deal also. What you need to do is go take a good look at what D* has to offer you and decide which provider you might need to be with.

Nope, you got me wrong there boba. I got the postcard from E*. This proves that some people are being offered better deals than $100 or $200 dollars without any effort. But, I do suggest that the OP see what the other guys have to offer and let E* know about it. I think we all know that the "cancellation specialist" are the ones that can offer a better deal.
