View Full Version : Bad port or something needs to be enabled?
Last week I had Directv installed on 4 TV's. I decided I wanted to switch my bedroom box (D12-700) to the s-video feed for the best picture. I'm not getting anything from the s-video. the RCA cables work fine, but no picture from the s-video. Is there some sort of trick to get the s-video to work or did I get a bad receiver?

The S-Video should work by itself.
Note: I'm moving this to the SD Receiver forum.
ok thanks!
I have 2 D12-700's, so I'll try the other one to see if it's a bad box - I connected the s-video cable to a dvd player and confirmed that the port on the tv was good - so maybe it's just a bad box - I noticed on the back of the box was a sticker indicating that this D12-700 had been refurbished . . .

While a bad port is always possible, the most common problem with SVideo is bent pins in the connector, caused from folks trying to rotate the keyed connector into place. That doesn't sound like the problem here, though, since the same cable works with the DVD player...

To my knowledge, all output ports on all DirecTV receivers are enabled without having to pay extra or subscribe to an optional service. I thought the HDMI port on my R22 (with no HD) was disabled but it turned out to be a bad cable. Now I watch on my HDTV in 480p using HDMI.
