I would just love to stay with DISH (which I find to be a far more human option than D*TV) but I can't face another year of watching my favorite hockey teams in SD on my glorious Samsung LCD!

I know that recent legal proceedings have opened up the possibility of a wider distribution of MSG-HD (which has the NHL rights to teams like the Ranger$, Sabres, and Islanders).

Will we see MSG-HD on Dish anytime soon?

I'm hoping before the Rangers start up again. Late September was looking likely back when the FCC closed the loophole...but sadly it appears Dolan's fighting tooth and nail (as is Comcast).

*sigh*

Maybe by the All-Star Game....

If MSG is still part of the Voom/AMC/Cablevision world don't hold your breath.

The Voom lawsuit is still proceeding at a slow crawl.

It's actually part of the terrestrial loophole fight, James. We already get MSG in SD, but they've been withholding the HD signal because they ... well, because they wanted to. But now they need to pony up.

The Voom lawsuit is still proceeding at a slow crawl. This year it was spun off from Cablevision into Madison Square Garden, Inc. But Madison Square Garden, Inc.'s Chairman is still James Dolan.

If Dish gets it, I would be pleasantly surprised not because I care about MSG but because I can't imagine Dolan allowing it while he's still breathing. So if he does, maybe I'll have a chance to see AMC in HD before I die.

I realize that Dish does not have a reputation as a "sports network" but this is a shame. I'm about 100% happier with Dish than I was with D* and would hate to go back. But, I'll do it, if it means I don't have to watch the Islanders in crappy SD again. Heck, if not of the Isles, I might not even own a TV set.

FWIW (and I realize it is not worth much), I called DISH about this last week. The rep (and, again, not saying I trust anything some out-sourced rep tells me) claims it is only a matter of time.

It's still going on really? Why?

It's still going on really? Why?It's Charlie Ergen v Charlie Dolan, need I say more?

It's still going on really? Why?The issue isn't resolved. DISH claimed breach of contract and pulled the channels. Voom claimed breach of contract for having the channels pulled. The channels may be long gone but the issue remains.

The ESPN lawsuit is still ongoing as well but fortunately DISH and ESPN have a good enough relationship to allow for new channels to be added.

I called Dish last week too and they told me the same thing that it's only a matter of time but they don't say how much time. I can't go another season watching the Islanders in SD again either. I'm ready to switch to Direct by the start of the hockey season even though I have been with Dish for over 12years.

Same here except I'm stuck as the only signal I can get is the Dish EA. What bugs me the most is the fact that Direct and Dish both charge the same for Center Ice yet you get average twice as much HD with Direct. I whined to Dish last year and they knocked $50 off the season price but I'd rather have the HD. If Direct ever puts up an alternate angle satellite (or cable joins the 21st century) then I'm gone.

I'm not going to blame Dish for this situation, because Dolan is pond scum. But, these days, we all have lots of options for movies, premium television, etc. With NETFLIX and a billion outlets for downloadable content, there isn't really incentive to sign up for any satellite TV if you're not going to be getting some context that is not easily had otherwise.

The content that you can't possibly get from Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV, etc is live sports and up-to-date news. So, and again just my opinion, it is to DISH's advantage if make sure to keep their packages competitive with D*.

And, as I said, I've found DISH to be a nice company to deal with, enjoy their DVRs, think the prices are reasonable. I have no interest in jumping ship. But, I am not watching any more SD hockey games on the glorious LCD TV of mine.

Premium channels are the easy way for me at least.
