I am selling my 301 on Ebay. I received a question asking if my reg. id is 010 or 013.

What are these and what's the difference?

MitchThat is a sign that a hacker is trying to purchase your receiver. Do not reply to them.

Ok, thanks. I pay for my service and would not knowingly sell to a hacker. What do the numbers mean anyway?

MitchAmong other things, the reg ID tells the version of the receiver and the model of the CPU. This gives the hacker a way to figure out what hardware he or she needs to steal programming. Basically, the creep is trying to find out if he already has the necessary hardware.

Those hackers wont have long to hack these receivers anyways since there is going to be a card swap soon.

does this include new subscribers or just old subs? I just subbed in july so I'm just curious cause i'm new and haven't been part of a card swap. Also how does it work?

The card swap has not happened yet and those that have the new Dish500 yellow card will not need this card swap. Those with the blue cards with a satellite on it will need the card swap. Also new receivers in the future (111 and 311 for example) will have the smart card chip built in with a slot for future upgrade to prevent piracy to override the chip.

wonder why i didn't get the new yellow cards? All my receivers have the dish 500 blue cards with the logos on them. Does this mean I will have to swap all of my cards?

I am trying to sell my 6000 receiver and I also got an email about wanting my receiver and smart card ID number so they could check and see if it's clear. Are they up to something also? Or is this legit.

If it is legit then there would be no need for wanting those smart card id numbers unless they want to check to see if there is a balance left on those receivers.

Any Dish receivers with blue cards will need to have a card swap. New receivers should have yellow Dish500 cards, used receivers will more likely have the blue cards.

well my 2 301's and my 508 all have the blue cards they were just installed last month. Why didn't I get the yellow cards?

If you're buying a used receiver, isn't it a good idea to make sure it's paid up? Will Dish refuse to activate if the previous owner wasn't paid up? Have people had problems of this sort?

I thought all new receivers were getting yellow cards. Dish, how do you expect to combat piracy if you are going to send out the blue cards with your units? I noticed a new replacement 721 have a blue card in it too a month ago when I got it. The 301 replacement got a yellow Dish500 card with it when I got that unit a week ago.

Very unwise for Dish to keep on sending out blue cards when they have to do a card swap, just costs them that much more. I remember an amnesty program where they only charged retailers $25 to replace the smart cards if a customer ran up the bill on a receiver, so that the receiver can be used again. They quit doing that.
