Ive been searching and reading and cant quite find the answers i am looking for, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction...

I currently have a Dish Duo 322, i have had this receiver for about 5 years now i think. I also always buy my equipment outright as i dont want to be locked into some kind of contract...

So here's the deal, my 322 is starting to act a little flaky and im thinking its about time to upgrade. Ive been eyeing the Duo VIP 222, since this is a HD receiver, i would imagine that i would need to purchase a new LNB also...

Im technically knowledgable, and can do the work myself, i just need to know whats all involved.

So do i need new lnb's, dish, splitters? Please help :D

What you do depends on what kind of TVs you have. For example, if you have two HDTVs, I'd recommend two ViP211 receivers. If you are the only viewer, you could probably get away with a single ViP211 and appropriate cabling.

The dish replacement issue isn't a big deal. You simply need to figure out which dish is appropriate for your viewing area and replace your existing dish with it.

What is your ZIP code?

63775 is the zip...

And i was looking at the 222 because my main tv is a HD tv, but the tv in my bedroom is a SD tv (which could change in the near future, but im not banking on that)

do you watch both tvs at the same time (different shows)? if yes Then a 222

if not
I would recommend the 211 as it can output HD to your main TV and SD to your bedroom tv
(however you can only view same show at each location)
the advantage would be that you can add a hard drive and make the 211 a DVR with no monthly dvr fee
(just a one time activation fee)

I do on occasion have both going on different channels when i have my kids.. and im not overly concerned about the DVR function (or lack there of).. i dont want to watch any more tv than i need to :D

Dish will do a purchase option on a 222. $149 for the box, $15 to install if you have the Service Plan and the dish is thrown in. $99 for the HD free promo (since you don't want a commitment) and your bill doesn't change a penny.

Hmmmmm... maybe ill call them and see.. however i would much rather do it myself, which is why i was trying to find out what all needed to be changed. Im a DIY kind of person. Im familiar with working satellites (although its HAM sats), etc... and the last thing i want to do is talk about my background, there is nothing worse than some n00b on a forum talking about what they can do...

It just seems much more convenient to do it in my free time as opposed to having to schedule someone to come out and do it, especially when i am completely capable of doing it myself.

**edit** also, i dont think i am paying for the service plan.. when i originally ordered, i just purchased the equipment.. i also dont see anything on my bill about a service plan..

Dish doesn't have a DIY option when you order directly, you can buy a box and dish from a retailer and DIY.

You can add the Service Plan for $6 a month and get the reduction in the tech charge from $95 to $15 and that covers purchased equipment also.

Buying from a retailer was my original plan, which is why i was inquiring about having to change out my actual dish and lnb's.

Ok, buying from a retailer will cost you about $ 210. It would cost $ 115 for a VIP 222 and $ 90 for the 1000.2 dish. You can check them out at www.solidsignal.com

Thank you, that finally answers my questions!
