Messenger Pop Ups

I just upgraded to XP. I've never had this problem in any other version of Windows. I get pop ups in a Messenger window saying that if I want to avoid these kind of annoying pop ups I can go to a certain website to eliminate them. That website has an offer for a pop up stopper that costs 25 bucks. It's obviously spam. Surely there must be a way to stop this. What is Messenger and how do I disable it?

Somebody PLEASE help. I get a dozen of these a day and they always seem to come up in the middle of a Pac-Man game. :mad:

The simple thing to do is to turn off the messenger service. Select "run" in the program start menu

Type: SERVICES.MSC

You will then see a list of all services. Scroll down to the Messenger service. Stop it and disable it. This works for both Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

That also is probably the same advice the spammer would sell you for $25.00.
