Hello:

I am currently considering switching from my cable company in Puerto Rico (Onelink, Adelphia) to Dish Network. They currently offer better prices with free HD so its a good offer. However, I am having problems with what would be the best Dish set-top box setup.

I have 3 TVs, 2 of them have separate set-top boxes with their own HDTV output and HD-DVR. The other has basic cable without a set-top box, no HDTV or DVR. I would like to have basically the same setup with DISH.

The 722 provides the HD and DVR I have on one of the TVs and provides with output for a 2nd TV, however it is not an HD stream so it wouldn't work for my 2 HDTV setup.

What do you recommend? Buying 2 722s? Something else?

Thanks for your help.

One 722K and a 211K with a Standalone Hard Drive to give it DVR capabilities. OTA module for each if OTA is needed.

Can I buy the 211k on the Internet and get service to it or do I have to inform the Dish provider somehow? Sorry I'm really a newbie. Also I would still need to pay a monthly fee for the 211k box as well right?>

I called the Dish Provider and they told me an extra 722 would go for $100 plus an additional monthly $17.

One does have to pay for everything they subscribe ... adding a 211 to your new account would cost you $7 per month.

You want to get the 211 with your initial order, so it's a free receiver and installed for free. It will add $7 a month for programming, no matter how you get the receiver. It's cheapest overall to get it off the bat.

Then what about the 722? I still need to power up 2 additional TVs.

Well, I'll call them to check if they offer the 211k and at what price.

Even if I buy the 211k online or on my own, I would still have to pay the $7 monthly fee right?

If you get a 722K and 211K, they will be free if you qualify for the top promotions. And you will always pay the additional receiver fee, no matter how you get the box.

One thing to be aware of: If you add an external hard drive to the 211K, the EHD cannot be used on the 722K. Similarly, if you add an EHD to the 722K, that EHD cannot be used as an EHD on the 211K. Also, there would be a separate $40 EHD fee for each DVR.

But If you had two 722K's, you could move drives back and forth as you please. And, you would only have to pay the $40 once.

You sure about that? I only have the one 211k, but I was under the impression this would cover any other 211 series receiver I got later.

I meant in the proposed configuration of one 211K and one 722K. I should have been more clear about that. :o

You can move the EHD between 722-622-612(now the 922). Those are real DVR's. You can't move the 211 EHD to a ViP DVR, as the 211 EHD has more software on it, that would normally be on the internal drive of the 722/622/612. You can move a 211 EHD to another 211 though. Now if only we can get the 222 with EHD, but thats a different subject.
