Switched from basic cable to DirecTV yesterday. I have an Oval 18x20 Dish and a 5x8 MultiSwitch because we have. 1 Tivo, and 3 basic receivers.

I'm pretty sure the Oval has 4 outputs, My installer said you could only use 2 cable(and not all 4)to the multiswitch and it will work just fine. After he set everything up it seems to be running just fine on all the Sats.

I'm just wondering if this is ok or do I have to run the other 2 cables.

We got the deal with NFL Sunday ticket so we get all the channels and we are getting all of them

Thanks,
Aaron

if you want hdtv or the nasa channel, you'll need to run the other two.

OK I just did some test. Looks like i'm not getting 110 and 119. I think on 110 i'm getting all the EVEN transponders. So thats why that is?

Ok thanks for the info, if we need those other channels then I guess we will run the cables.

Or the installer is pointing the dish a little to the right of where it should be. I do that all the time by accident. If I don't use a meter with a 22 KHZ tone, I ALWAYS get the wrong alignment on a 3-LNB dish.

Thanks. I will give the installers a call and see if they will come back out and do the job right this time.

Southern sky , maybe you can help me. I have been having aligining an phase 3 using a c/m 10081fd dual meter. I can align the second and third satellite. My meter has the 22kHz can you advse and help.

I use a different brand (Accusat 22 from Perfect 10) but I imagine it would work the same.

If you have two wires coming from the dish, one plugged into each port, and have the 22 KHZ tone turned on only ONE of the two ports of your meter, you should be able to achieve alignment. The 22 khz turned on will automatically adjust so that you are doing 101 on one and 119 on the other. If you get them max'ed, you should have 110 at max peak also. (Check channel 99 to see if the 110 signal works -- you'll see a DirecTV logo). During pointing, forget 110 exists. If you get 101 and 119, 110 will be there and is thus not adjustable. If not, time to readjust ...

The scales tend to adjust differently though (your meter won't likely read the same on both gauges of your Channel Master) -- just go for max on both 101 & 119.

Please learn from my mistake -- that mast MUST be 100 percent plumb and the bubble in the center of the window after being bolted down firmly. I used to use a magnetic torpedo level on 2 sides for a regular single-LNB dish -- can't do that anymore on a 3-LNB dish or you'll hunt for all three signals for hours.

I've only done a dozen or so 3-LNB's as we're not a locals area (just high def) so if anyone else has any input, feel free to add/correct my thoughts, preferably in the Technical Talk forum.

For the Thread question of 2 or 4 wires -- yes, you definately need 4 wires, but see the recent posts under Technical Talk for more info on 5:8
