A friend of mine recently gave me about half a spool of RG11 cable from when he did contract cable installation. I estimate there is about 200 feet left on this spool.
Is RG11 good for satellite installations? Is it better than RG6?
Yes, RG11 is very good for satellite. It is better than RG6 (which is the cable that is usually used). Usually, RG11 is used for very long wire runs because it has a larger center conductor (so there is less of a voltage drop at the LNB). Instead of using an in-line amp, it is usually better to use RG11.
RG11 is overkill for a normal installation, but since you got it for free, go ahead and use it!

I used rg11 for my outside antenna. It is about a 50 foot run. It was free also.
Another note, I had rg59 when I was with Directv, but it would not work with Dish 6000. I had to switch to rg6 because I could not get a signal with rg59.
If I recall correctly, RG-11 has 1/4 the loss of standard RG-6 (although a lot of cable installers are using Tri-Shield These days.) So you should be able to have a run 4 times as long. Would come in handy for MTU applications.
Sooner,
RG-11 does require different "f" connectors than RG-6 (also a special crimping tool to put them on properly). If you can't find them locally, do an internet search for companies that carry them.
