View Full Version : What will Dish do for longtime customer?

No "told you so"s please. :)

I was about to make a jump to Directv since I could save a decent amount of money/month with their current offer. I was also going to gain a second DVR for the bedroom which would be nice since I currently only have a single VIP 622. Long story short, getting the Directv service installed with the equipment I want has been a nightmare. I am seriously thinking about bagging the whole thing and staying with Dish, but I really have my heart set on having 2 DVRs now.

I know Dish wont give me their latest offer, but what WILL they do for customer that's been with them for over 3 years?

thanks!

What did they say when you called them and asked?

I have not called and asked for anything yet. I would like to know what others have gotten so I know what's reasonable. A couple new DVRs at the minimum would be nice.

Three years is nowhere near longtime. Longtime in this space is probably upwards of ten years.

What they offer you now depends on what you've taken them up on in the last year. If you've added or upgraded anything within the last year, they probably won't offer you anything substantial.

In any event, only DISH Network can tell you what DISH Network is willing to do for you.

Remember that either way (DIRECTV or DISH Network), you're going to pay $200 up front for that second DVR.

If everything fails with DIRECTV, consider getting a ViP211 with an external hard drive.

Even IF Dish Network GAVE me a vip922 for FREE - I probably wouldn't be talking about it in an online forum. (They didn't do that, and AFAIK, they don't do that.) :D

I've been shopping at my local Target for 3 years now... and they never give me anything for free just because I shop there.

Beating the dead horse... but expecting something for "loyalty" causes one to question loyalty... not to mention that loyalty really doesn't apply to business arrangements.

IF you pay your bill, and receive what you are paying for.. then that fulfills the obligations of both you and Dish. Anything else is gravy, and it's best to look at it that way.

When you're already in the "I'll go to DirecTV if Dish doesn't give me something" mode... you're already showing your motivation, and proving to Dish that in 2 years when your DirecTV commitment is up, you'll likely do the same thing again and be back at Dish... so no incentive for them to work hard for you really.

I think that trying to get something when you're contract is up is good business on my part, and frankly that is all I have to make happy. Dish or whatever company, has a slew of marketing/accounting/legal experts to wring as much out of us as they can, so it is not an issue for me to try to wrest a bit of it back in one way or another.

If I'm happy with the equipment/service I'm getting at the end of the contract, then I just keep going without a contract. But, OTOH, if I want something new that they have brought out since I first signed up, or need to expand, I'm willing to trade a new commitment for whatever it is I need/want. At that point in time Dish has the choice to either go along or make a counter offer. If that isn't satisfactory to either of us, moving to a different service might be the right move.

That's exactly where I was going with my original post.

I kinda thought so.

According to another forum area, you might be able to get an additional HDDVR for free, or nearly so. It is worth asking for and if they won't then that will be something to put in your should or should I not list...

8 year 5 star customer and I have never paid a dime for any equipment upgrades I've asked for. I have 2 722's and every other Saturday Charlie stops by and mows my lawn.....

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but my experience with Dish is that every DVR upgrade I've received has been free - only an additional $10/month charge for each additional DVR.

I currently have a VIP722 and just added a VIP622 in another room. No charge for that new DVR.

I think it has varied at times. When I added a 625 to my system, they did it totally free of any upfront costs, including the truck roll to add some coax to the new location. But I've read of some getting charged for 622/722/722k upgrades, plus a charge for the truck roll if needed.

I'm going to swap out my 625 to a Vip612 in September after the one year anniversary of getting the 625. I fully expect that to be a free upgrade/swap. If it isn't, I may or may not make some changes.

Of course, this may all turn out to be no problem. It has been strongly rumored ( I know rumor... <G>), that the Paducah, Ky DMA goes HD locals on the EA on the 11th of this month. If that happens, I should get a dish add/swap and a 612 a little sooner.

I have two 722ks, and I did not pay a dime to upgrade the second DVR. Give them a call.

Your so-called 'loyalty' isn't worth much...

I've been a member of this board for over 8 years and all I got was a lousy visit from a moderator! :nono2:

I have 13 years with Dish and they have extended me a lot of "perks" over the years..:D

I got a "free" upgrade from my 622 to a 722k last July, with a 24 month committment, of course I had just done a DIU in April paying $25 to replace a 510 with a 211k, so it really only extended my committment 3 months.

I've been a customer since 2003.

I just left Dish after 14 years, so I guess I qualify as a long time customer. Four receivers / $99 a month.

They asked why I wanted to go - I stated I wanted HD in every room and equipment was too costly.

First Offer - $99 for a HD dual tuner DVR + $99 install

Second Offer - Free HD Dual Tuner DVR + $99 install

Third Offer - Free HD Dual Tuner DVR + no install if I add service plan

Said let me think about it. Decided it was not good enough deal so I ordered Direct.

Called to cancel Dish -- One last try by Dish - $10 off per month for a year

Then they offered to put HD in 3 rooms (their limit apparently cause I said I needed 4 - they would not do it)

So - there ya go...wish they could have done something to make me stay cause I liked Dish, but I was able to get 2 HD DVRs and 3 HD Rcvrs from Direct and will almost exactly break even in 2 years.

I have been a customer since 1996, and most of the time I have received equipment upgrades for free. 9 months ago as part of their loyalty program they offered me to upgrade my 626 to a 622. I declined at that time because I really did not need a HD receiver.

Today I called, asked for their loyalty dept, and was told to upgrade to the 622 from the 625 or 722 was $200 fee. I asked where was the loyalty discount they offered before and was told, they elimimated that discount. The rep told be to go out on ebay and buy one instead?? ok

so I'm deciding now whether to buy the 722K and add a OTA antenna to be able to record 4 programs.

I know a month old post but I had some time to answer.

Here's how it works:

Dish "grades" every customer, based primarily on payment history, but also on things like the size of your programming package(s) and your length of service. You're either a "Plan A" (premium), "Plan B", or "Plan C" customer.

Plan A customers can do a Dish'n It Up (lease upgrade) once per year, and anything up to an HD Duo DVR (i.e., 722) is free, except for the cost of the tech visit ($15 with Service Plan, $95 without). The 922 upgrade is $200 for Plan A.

Plan B customers can get lower-end receivers for free, but have to pay for HD-DVRs.

Plan C customers will pay for just about anything, and won't be offered much in the way of programming discounts.

These offers are pretty much set in stone, with only Retention supervisors able to offer a little more in most cases.

As others pointed out, simple "time of service" doesn't get you much, anymore than it would from your power company or garbage company. Payment history (paying your bill before the DUE DATE, primarily) is the main criteria.

Been with DISH 5 years, never a late payment, monthly bill ranges $70-100 depending on what I have activated at that time (programming), have a VIP722, asked about adding a VIP722K to my bedroom was told $200 for a 2 year lease. I can buy a VIP722K brand new on fleaBay for $250 shipped so this really wasn't any big incentive at all. I'm on their service plan (and have been the past 5 years). I asked two different CSRs and got same answer. I was shocked when I asked additional monthly service fee if I lease their VIP722K or buy my own and was told $14/mo -- seems very high to me for a 2nd DVR fee.
